eCu StudentS win GooGle ChAllenGe
Competing against 35,000 students globally, a team of four ECU
students won the 2011 Google Online Marketing Challenge for
the Japan/Asia-Pacific Region. Joe Sorgiovanni, Yusuke Ogura,
Zhe Pan and Elizabeth Fu were part of the successful team who
developed an effective online marketing campaign using just
$200 worth of Google AdWords. This is the second year running
that ECU students have won the regional challenge and almost
half of our teams were in the top 10% globally.

to eCu GrAduAte
Felicity Creagh was named WA Social Worker of the Year at the
2011 Social Worker of the Year Awards. The awards recognise
and reward social workers who display excellence within the
sector. Felicity received the award in recognition of her work
in helping young mothers to develop confidence and increase
parenting skills.

Professor Ross Dowling, Foundation Professor of Tourism from
the Faculty of Business and Law, was recognised on the 2011
Australia Day Honours List, receiving a Medal of the Order of
Australia for his service to the hospitality and tourism industry,
education and the development of ecotourism.

AwArded to eCu profeSSor
ECU’s Professor Cobie Rudd was awarded a prestigious
National Teaching Fellowship from the Australian Learning
and Teaching Council (ALTC). The fellowship, worth
$350,000, will be used by Professor Rudd to further
develop the simulated learning curriculum and facilities,
both at ECU and more generally in Australia.
