PIBT, a member of Navitas, in association with ECU, offers<br />

<strong>University</strong> Pathway Programs for students needing academic<br />

or English preparation before entering ECU.<br />

pibt enGliSh lAnGuAGe Centre<br />

PIBT’s English centre provides English <strong>course</strong>s for students<br />

from non-English speaking countries including direct entry<br />

pathways for <strong>international</strong> students wishing to undertake<br />

university study. The English centre is renowned for its excellent<br />

teaching staff, high quality English language programs and<br />

outstanding facilities.<br />

satisfy the needs of students who wish to study <strong>international</strong>ly<br />

recognised qualifications, or those looking at furthering their<br />

direCt entry proGrAm<br />

The Direct Entry Program (DEP) is a 16-week <strong>course</strong>, with<br />

two intakes per year (March and October), for students holding<br />

offers from ECU who have met the academic entry criteria<br />

for entry into postgraduate level <strong>course</strong>s but not the English<br />

language requirements.<br />

The cost of the 16-week DEP <strong>course</strong> is $7,520 plus<br />

administration fee of $150 and a materials fee of $190.<br />

Please note that you are also required to pay Overseas<br />

Student Health Cover (medical insurance).<br />

CourSe Content<br />

You learn how to research and write assignments for<br />

postgraduate <strong>course</strong>work or research. The <strong>course</strong> features<br />

journal article research and development of extensive reading,<br />

essay writing case study reading, referencing and assignment<br />

formatting skills. The <strong>course</strong> also helps you with critical thinking<br />

and time management skills.<br />

entry requirement<br />

Academic IELTS overall score of 5.5, with no individual band less<br />

than 5.5.* Students who do not meet these requirements can be<br />

packaged with an Academic English Program (AEP) component of<br />

4-8 weeks before commencing DEP.<br />

ASSeSSment<br />

Although you do not have to take another IELTS or TOEFL,<br />

you will be assessed throughout the <strong>course</strong> and you will have<br />

to obtain a final mark of 80% for entry into ECU postgraduate<br />

standard entry programs (Education and Nursing excluded) # .<br />

If you fail the DEP, you must sit an IELTS or another test<br />

acceptable to ECU in order to gain entry to ECU.<br />

ACAdemiC enGliSh option<br />

Students with a 6.0 overall IELTS score, with no individual band<br />

less than 5.5 can complete 10 weeks of Academic English and<br />

receive entry into ECU without any further English testing.<br />

* All IELTS results should not be more than 12 months old. Please contact<br />

ECUI to see if you are eligible for the 4-8 weeks of AEP before DEP.<br />

# Students wishing to enter Education or Nursing can only do so with the<br />

required IELTS. Students can apply to study the Academic English Program<br />

as preparation for their IELTS test.<br />
