–2011 NATIONAL SHOW –
PAINT THE TOWN

The 2011 National Show will be held in
Tamworth again at the AELEC centre
commencing the 3rd March, 2011.There
are a host of new events including campdrafting
(cattle pending), show jumping,
team penning, open events, teams events,
more youth events as well as AO events
and more paintbred classes.The futurities
will again be feature events as well.
One of the biggest changes for this Nationals
will be the timing of the weanling
and yearling futurities.These have now
been scheduled for mornings when the
younger horses are at their best.
The feature barrel race will also be
accompanied by a Stake race, which
is American pole bending. This will
be in aid of the Prostate Cancer
Foundation and is being coordinated
by Alison Lord. Advertising
of the event has already
commenced, so we are hopeful
of a great number of entrants
to entertain and help raise much
needed funds for this worthy
foundation.
The team penning will be run by
the Upper Hunter Team Penning
Association. This association is also
known for running the team penning
for the Sydney Royal Show and
other major events, so they are well
organised and prepared. Team penning
is growing in popularity and it will be
evident at our show, how popular it is in
the Tamworth region.
Showjumping is being introduced as a new
event.These events will be both for regular
registered and paint bred horses as well
as open breeds. Paint horses are increasingly
being seen competing successfully
in this non traditional event.We are encouraging
local members to showcase
their paints in the world of showjumping.
Once again we have some major sponsors
already lined up for specific events. Garraka
Park, are once again sponsoring the weanling
Slot Futurity with a guaranteed $5000
first prize.This event was hotly contested
in the 2010 Nationals and will again be one
of the events to look out for.
A teams event is being introduced to this
Nationals as well. It is hoped it will be an
ongoing fun event for all. It will be open
to regular registered and paintbreds alike
and will be open to youth and amateur and
open contestants, but not trainers.This will
be an exciting event that hopefully will become
a regular feature at future Nationals.
Further details will be available on the website
shortly and entry to this event will be
taken at the show.
Amateur owners and youth will enjoy the
increased classes available. Paintbred classes
are also increased to allow better showing
equality with the regular registered horses.
There are feature all breeds classes as well.
This is to showcase the world of the paints
to those not normally exposed to the
beauty of our horses. Showjumping, team
penning, cutting, barrels and campdrafting
will all feature all breed sections. A two
day campdraft has been included in the
program, however this is dependent on
the availability of stock. If stock are available,
this event will be a huge injector of
funds for the PHAA this season.There
will also be a cutting/team penning day
which should prove an exciting action
pack day in the arena.
Entries for this show will be online, through
Nominate with events, stabling and camping
all being pre organised.There will also
be an option for paper based entries for
those people who do not have access to
the net. By entering online, you will have
the ability to select your own stables and
camping areas so there certainly is a benefit
to entering on line.
Sponsorship for the Nationals is being
coordinated by Megan Savill. Megan has
implemented a garland gifter and buckle
buddies program as well as class sponsorships.
Omega Feeds are a major
sponsor having sponsored the High
Point Awards, which is absolutely
great news. Other sponsors are
being gained daily, so if you wish to
sponsor an event please let Megan know.
A fun activity which is also being organised
is a “Pimp my stable” competition
with some great prizes and no
doubt a lot of laughs to come. Keep
this in mind before venturing to the
Nationals as to how you can decorate
you stable or stable block.
During the Nationals, the AGM is also
scheduled to occur. Please keep a close
eye on the website for updates on the
National Show.There will also be notices
on Facebook indicating updates to the
website.
I would like to invite all members to the
Nationals for a fun and rewarding period
of showing and socialising. Lets all work
together to make this show the best
show ever and to assist in setting the
standard for the years to come.
