turn it over to you". This practice
is not responsive to a mobile
station time dependent on freeway or
road advice or offering a traffic
11)Use of the term 73"s·, plural.
The numbers 73, sent in CW, mean
"best regards·. Note that 73 sent in
CW does not include the ·s·. If
Amateurs are going to use a CW term
in their phone operations, get it
right. Folks. it·s 73. pronounced
·Seven Three·.
12)Using the term ·portable" when it
should have been "mobile·. For
example; This is UR2BAD portable.
Portable defines an Amateur station
operating from a fixed location
other than the address listed on
his/her station license. Mobile
means just What it says.
Now none of these examples are
a mortal sin or a major crime. They
are not up there with world events
such as the uniting of East and west
Germany or the civil unrest in
Yugoslavia. Hearing them does not
cause me to worry. raise my blood
pressure. or lose any sleep. My
pOint is that if we are using a
hobby that occupies valuable
frequency spectrum we ought to do it
right. Perpetuating poor operating
habits from one generation to the
next is not required. Just because a
Ham (some of the ·oldtimers·)
demonstrates poor operating
procedures does not mean they have
to be copi ed •
