PEACE AND SPORT AND TRACE SPORTS<br />
TEAM UP FOR PEACE<br />
<strong>Peace</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Sport</strong>, <strong>the</strong> international organization under <strong>the</strong> High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco,<br />
<strong>and</strong> TRACE <strong>Sport</strong>s, <strong>the</strong> new br<strong>and</strong> from <strong>the</strong> TRACE Group dedicated to sports celebrities, have joined<br />
forces to publicize <strong>the</strong> work of sports champions who act as ambassadors of peace.<br />
In addition to being top-level athletes, many champions also work for peace <strong>and</strong> commit <strong>the</strong>mselves to helping<br />
vulnerable communities throughout <strong>the</strong> world which are trying to reconstruct after conflict or suffer from<br />
extreme poverty. To support <strong>the</strong>se champions’ projects <strong>and</strong> exp<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> scope of <strong>the</strong>ir operations, <strong>Peace</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />
<strong>Sport</strong> <strong>and</strong> TRACE <strong>Sport</strong>s have combined forces.<br />
Founded in 2007 by Joel Bouzou, Modern Pentathlon athlete <strong>and</strong> world champion, <strong>Peace</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Sport</strong> aims to use<br />
<strong>the</strong> values of sport to help educate young generations, encouraging dialogue between populations <strong>and</strong> more<br />
broadly helping nations to improve social cohesion. Since <strong>the</strong> club was launched, 56 top athletes such as tennis<br />
player Novak Djokovic, rugby players Sebastien Chabal <strong>and</strong> Jonah Lomu, footballer Christian Karembeu, <strong>and</strong><br />
athletes Cathy Freeman <strong>and</strong> Yelena Isinbayeva have become Champions for <strong>Peace</strong>, giving <strong>the</strong>ir time to benefit<br />
humanitarian <strong>and</strong> social welfare projects.<br />
TRACE <strong>Sport</strong>s <strong>and</strong> <strong>Peace</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Sport</strong> will produce television programs <strong>and</strong> digital media covering <strong>the</strong> achievements<br />
of <strong>the</strong> sports-heroes-turned-peace-ambassadors. These documentary films aimed at <strong>the</strong> general<br />
public will mostly be shown on <strong>the</strong> TRACE <strong>Sport</strong>s program called ‘In The Name of Good’ which focuses on<br />
charitable initiatives from great sports champions.<br />
Olivier Laouchez, CEO of Trace explains: «This partnership builds on strong, shared values. Athletes have become<br />
part of public life: <strong>the</strong>ir voices are heard <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir actions set an example to <strong>the</strong>ir fans. TRACE <strong>Sport</strong>s is going<br />
to be spokesperson for <strong>the</strong>ir undertakings with <strong>Peace</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Sport</strong> so that <strong>the</strong>ir actions for peace are better known<br />

“<strong>Peace</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Sport</strong>, L’Organisation pour la Paix par le <strong>Sport</strong>” is a neutral <strong>and</strong> apolitical international initiative<br />
based in <strong>the</strong> Principality of Monaco <strong>and</strong> placed under <strong>the</strong> High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.<br />
<strong>Peace</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Sport</strong> puts sport <strong>and</strong> its values at <strong>the</strong> heart of local development projects conducted within communities<br />
in crisis around <strong>the</strong> world. Exercising its missions in post-conflict zones, areas of extreme poverty or<br />
lacking social cohesion, <strong>Peace</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Sport</strong> makes sport a vehicle for tolerance, respect, sharing <strong>and</strong> citizenship<br />
at <strong>the</strong> service of sustainable peace.<br />
Supported by governments, world sport governing bodies, international organizations, major international<br />
private companies <strong>and</strong> international sports champions, <strong>Peace</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Sport</strong> creates synergies between different<br />
stakeholders based on four different activities:<br />
• The annual <strong>Peace</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Sport</strong> International Forum (next edition in Monaco from 26-28 October 2011)<br />
• A co-operation platform for peace <strong>and</strong> sport,<br />
• The <strong>Peace</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Sport</strong> Awards, to reward individuals <strong>and</strong> initiatives contributing to peace,<br />
• Locally-Based Projects; concrete actions in different regions of crisis in <strong>the</strong> world<br />
Today, <strong>Peace</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Sport</strong> has operations in Cote d’Ivoire, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Israel-Palestine,<br />
Timor Leste, Colombia <strong>and</strong> in Haiti.<br />
<strong>Peace</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Sport</strong> was founded by Joel Bouzou, current President of <strong>the</strong> organisation. Joel Bouzou is an Olympic<br />
medallist, world champion of Modern Pentathlon <strong>and</strong> current Secretary General for <strong>the</strong> International Union of<br />
Modern Pentathlon (UIPM). He is also Advisor to H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.<br />
