APRIL 2011<br />
The tennis program has kicked off in 2011 with fantastic ‘on court’<br />
numbers and some fresh faces to give the program a new look. The<br />
additions to the program have started well, but it’s some of the old<br />
faces that have set the tournament scene alight in Term 1 and set<br />
the tone for a good year to come.<br />
Special mentions go to Andre Lukic and Chan Chai Sookton Eng<br />
who have had some great results early in the year.<br />
With Australian junior tennis coming to an important time in<br />
the next few months and with many big tournaments on the<br />
V o l l e y b a l l<br />
Australian Selections<br />
Hannah Wright, in year 11, was recently selected into one of two<br />
Australian Junior (under 19) Women’s Teams that will compete<br />
against the best Asian junior women’s teams at a tournament in<br />
Thailand from 25 April to 5 May 2011.<br />
The tour is part of the build up for the Asian Junior Women’s<br />
Championships to be held in September 2012. The Asian<br />
Championships tournament is the qualification tournament for the<br />
World Junior Championships.<br />
Hannah has attended a number of training camps and<br />
tournaments within Australia as part of her ongoing development.<br />
This will be her first overseas tournament.<br />

State team selection.<br />
Four of our athletes won recently won selection in Victorian U/15<br />
teams.<br />
Brianna Pyritz in Year 8 achieved selection in the U/15 Girls Blue (or<br />
top) team, despite being just 13 years old and still eligible for U/15<br />
state selection next year.<br />
ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT & SPORTING EXCELLENCE<br />
calendar, the program has kicked into full swing in preparing our<br />
athletes to compete and be successful in these events. Some of<br />
our players will be competing in International and National events<br />
in Queensland . We wish all players the best of luck in the coming<br />
weeks at all tournament levels. Two more weeks of preparation<br />
should hold them in good stead to compete well.<br />

Tennis Coach<br />
Tayla Mangles, also in Year 8 but new to our College this year, won<br />
selection in the U/15 Development team.<br />
Selected in the U/15 Boys Development team were Zac<br />
Santamaria, a Year 8 student new to our school and Ben Tran from<br />
Year 9. Ben began playing volleyball at <strong>Maribyrnong</strong> College in<br />
Year 7.<br />
Five of our athletes were selected in Victorian U/17 squads.<br />
Three Year 9 students won U/17 selection. Bonnie Lethlean was<br />
selected in the Girls squad and Garang Anyang and Andrew<br />
Christensen were selected in the Boys squad. All three began<br />
playing volleyball at <strong>Maribyrnong</strong> College in Year 7.<br />
Also chosen were two Year 11 students who are new to our College<br />
this year- Joseph Yigit and Hannah Wright. Both are state team<br />
veterans, having won selection in previous years.<br />
