Voluntarily Reduce
Levels of Mercury in
Compact Fluorescents
ROSSLYN, VA — Members of the Lamp
Section of the National Electrical Manufacturers
Association (NEMA) announced that
they are voluntarily reducing the maximum
allowable mercury content in the compact
fluorescent lamps (CFLs) that they offer for
sale in the U.S.
This agreement builds upon the companies’
March 2007 voluntary commitment and
is consistent with NEMA’s initiative to reduce
use of hazardous substances whenever feasible.
Under the new voluntary commitment,
NEMA members will cap the total mercury
content in CFLs of less than 25 watts at 4 milligrams
(mg) per unit. The total mercury content
of CFLs that use 25 to 40 watts of electricity
will be capped at 5 mg per unit.

Nelson Enterprises Marks 25th Year in Business
BLOOMSBURY, NJ — Nelson Enterprises,
or as it’s more formally known, Nelson
Enterprises Theatrical Supply Co., LLC,
is celebrating its 25th year in business.
Since it was founded in 1995, the company
has grown to become involved in a
wide range of theatrical supplies, including
lighting, sound, draperies and rigging,
and also stock and custom road cases.
The company’s Nelson Custom Case
Co. unit was founded in 1990 and now offers
stock cases, custom cases, used cases
and case repairs. Nelson Enterprises Theatrical
Systems Integration Services (NET-
SIC) was founded in 2007 to consult with
architectural firms involved with theatrerelated
construction projects or renovations.
Nelson Enterprises’ Bill Nelson’s involvement
with ESTA dates back to the
founding members meeting for its predecessor,
the TDA (Theatrical Dealers Association).
He has since had an influence
on backstage developments ranging from
Robert Altman’s ODEC Outdoor Ellipsoidal,
the Light Source Baby Mega Side
Arm and the 2-inch and 4-inch Riser used
along with the Telrad followspot sight.

technical direction,” added James
Fairorth, Tait Towers president, “and

relationship with Fisher to allow us

Separately, Tait Technologies,
the Waardamme, Belgium-based
joint venture between Tait Towers
and System Technologies founder
Frederic Opsomer, announced the
launch of its rental division, which
is headed by Dirk Dhulster.
“The activation of our rental division
is another milestone in the
deployment of Tait Technologies’
full range of activities throughout
Europe,” noted Opsomer.
