3.4 Information System for the Development of Research in Primary Care
The Information System for the Development of Research in Primary Care (SIDIAP) is a database created in 2010
by IDIAP Jordi Gol and the Catalan Health Institute (ICS) from computerised clinical registers. SIDIAP has the
anonymous clinical information of 5.8 million citizens assigned to ICS Primary Care, and via a synthetic indicator
Registry Quality Score (RQS) it selects the professionals with an optimum level of computerised clinical history
use in order to use the patients assigned to these professionals (40% of the total, or approximately 1.9 million) in
high quality research.
For each of the citizens included, SIDIAP has all the information of their clinical history electronically stored by the
eCAP program (demographic data, visits, health problems codified according to the CIM-10 classification, clinical
variables, life style, and vaccinations), the results of their laboratory tests and the prescribed medication they
have collected from pharmacies. In addition, with SIDIAP patients may be individually linked to the database of
hospital admissions (CMBD-AH) of CatSalut.
Since its creation SIDIAP has given support to 29 local, national and international projects investigating Primary
Care, the majority of them with financing obtained through competitive calls. Collaborations have also been
established with other databases of similar characteristics and international repute such as the British GPRD.
