3.8.1 Care Ethics Committee
The Care Ethics Committee (CEA) of IDIAP Jordi Gol was accredited on 25th September 2003 and its objective is to
promote reflection and ethical behaviour in the taking of clinical decisions within Primary Health Care.
It is a consultative committee, plural and multidisciplinary, which is at the service of professional and users in
orear to assist in the analysis of ethical problems and conflicts arising in Primary Care.
In no case does it take the place of professionals’ own decisions or those of institutions, but aims to aid reflection
in orear that the best decision may be taken within an ethical and consensual framework.
The Committee was created at the joint initiative of IDIAP Jordi Gol and the catlan Health Institute (ICS) and is
open to all providers of Primary Care in Catalonia.
The Ethics Committee of IDIAP Jordi Gol was born out of the desire to be useful to professionals and the institutions
they work in, to users of health services and to society as a whole.
Objectives
– To maintain the protection of and respect for the rights and obligations of health service users and
professionals.
– To advise, from an ethical point of view, on the taking of clinical, primary health care and organisational
decisions.
– To issue guidelines and recommendations in those cases or situations which generate or may generate
ethtical conflicts.
– To raise awareness of ethical issues and form ethical attitudes within the institution.
– To contribute to improving the quality of health care.
