Research group: GEPAR-AP (Respiratory System Pathology<br />
in Primary Care Study Group)<br />
This group is made up of primary health care professionals from the area of Tarragona and includes<br />
doctors, nurses and physiotherapists. Some its members are also university teachers from the Rovira i<br />
Virgili University and active members of research groups in their respective scientific societies. It is also<br />
supported by the Research Unit of Primary Health Care Management in the Camp de Tarragona area.<br />
The group’s principal objective is the study of risk factors and approach strategies for respiratory<br />
diseases in primary health care. Primary Health care is the ideal setting in which to develop prospective<br />
multicentric studies which will generate quality data with which to answer some of these questions<br />
while at the same time favouring a better use of available resources.<br />
Lines: Acute pathology and respiratory infections. Rapid diagnostic techniques, use and abuse of the prescription<br />
of antibiotics. Chronic respiratory pathology and smoking. Early diagnosis and infra diagnosis and treatment<br />
of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).<br />
