Explanation of the appropriateness of the assessment methods in assessing the<br />

intended learning outcomes:<br />

<strong>The</strong> assessment methods aim (1) to distinguish the tones of monosyllables, the neutral<br />

tone of disyllables and words, (2) to understand the meaning of conversation in actual<br />

communicative settings, (3) to conduct a dialogue in designed situations in Chinese,<br />

(4) to master the vocabulary and sentence patterns learned, (5) to assess the fluency<br />

and accuracy of students’ Chinese by asking them to recite a text, and (6) to write<br />

Chinese sentences.<br />

All assignments are in continuous assessment. Each assignment will be evaluated in<br />

terms of criterion reference assessment.<br />
