Dear Friends of Presbyterian Homes & services, I am privileged to begin my service in 2011 as the 13th chair of the board of directors, the seat first occupied by Dr. Edwin Kagin, followed by Dr. Irving West and successive leaders who have shaped and carried PHS for over a half-century. My fellow board members and I stand on their shoulders looking forward as we roll out the 5-year strategic plan introduced in this edition of Perspectives. The plan translates the clarion call to press on and aim high to enrich the lives of older adults and reflect the love of God. Taking into account the changing landscape and challenging times within our world, we affirm our primary commitment to the residents, clients and families we currently serve and prepare for a growing population of those soon entering retirement. Equipping us are the leaders and staff, volunteers and supporters of PHS whose contributions fulfill the vision to provide more choices and opportunities for more older adults to live well. They are the stewards of past, present and future for this organization. This edition of Perspectives describes the upward call through story and statement, report and recognition. The Year 2010 Annual Report details the organizational and fiscal performance of the past year, the Social Accountability Report gives an account of contributions PHS has made to benefit the larger society, and the Donor Recognition salutes those whose generosity has supported the mission and ministry this past year and into the future. It has been a good year. We thank God for the blessing of accomplishments that measure how well we fulfill our mission, and challenges that teach us new understanding. We have much to learn and much to do. On behalf of the board I ask you to pray with us to remain receptive to God’s voice and align our work to God’s will. We trust in Christ who goes before us and the Holy Spirit who illuminates the way. On behalf of the board I thank you for your continued confidence and involvement in PHS. May God give us all the grace to press on with courage and faith. We regret the error. 6 t Ruth Omundson, an early employee of The Presbyterian Home, and one of the first residents of The Mayfield, helped set standards of service that are now hallmarks of PHS. Soon after her death last summer, her family discovered a treasure of PHS history among her personal belongings.
