hurt,” he continued.
Julie nodded in agreement.
“Not to change the subject,” she began.
“But, what's going on with Luke? What is it
with him and hospitals?”
Marty leaned back and took a moment to
gather his thoughts.
“Before we left L.A.,” he began. “We
went to county hospital, thinking that we
could find out what happened to everyone.”
“That seems reasonable,” Julie responded.
“Yeah,” Marty continued. “I decided to
investigate a little.”
He paused again to organize his words.
“I'm sorry. I got a little ahead of myself.
There was this girl we worked with. Her
name was Maria and Luke was just head
over heels for her. And one day, she went
missing. Turned out her and her family had
been taken to county. We went there later
that night just in time for Luke to see them
throw her body on the fire.”
Julie was aghast and brought her hands up to
her mouth as her eyes teared up.
“Oh, my God,” she said. “That's awful.”
“Yeah,” Marty replied. “They didn't
even put her in a bag. She was still wearing
a hospital gown. Still had an IV in her arm.
They just carried her out and threw her on
the fire. Like she was a bag of garbage.”
