• The Superintendent welcomed a delegation of principals from Beijing, China who were participating 

in an Overseas Study Experience. Rick Harrington, Program Developer for International 

Instructional Development with California State University, Fullerton, spoke briefly, indicating that 

the university is serving as a training site for their visit. 

• Dr. Domene indicated he had the opportunity to provide opening remarks for a recent Southern 

California School Nutrition Association luncheon. 

• The Superintendent spoke briefly regarding the Special Board Study Session which is planned for 

Thursday, February 14, 2013, regarding the development of a new strategic plan for the district.

COMMUNICATIONS 

Invitation to El Dorado High School’s Senior Project Event on May 29, 2013 

BOARD REPORT 

1. Mrs. Karin Freeman welcomed the delegation of educators from China and expressed how honored 

we were to have them in attendance at the Board meeting. She indicated she had also appreciated 

the opportunity to hear Mr. Ron Bennett’s presentation on the potential fiscal implications of the 

State budget on school districts across the state. 

2. Mrs. Judi Carmona reported that she had recently had the privilege of seeing the Kraemer Middle 

School Marching Band perform at Disneyland. She also attended a performance of Freckle-Faced 

Strawberry at El Dorado High School and was pleased to go to the Battle of the Books at which our 

students had participated. Mrs. Carmona was pleased to have been invited to serve as a judge for 

the Miss Yorba Linda and Miss Placentia Teen Pageant and shared that all of the contestants are 

current or past PYLUSD students. 

3. Mr. Eric Padget commended the PTA Reflections winners and looks forward to the Reflections 

Showcase next week. He also commented on the value of the District’s performing and visual arts 

program. The Board is dedicated to maintaining a vibrant performing and visual arts program in the 

district. Mr. Padget shared briefly regarding his recent trip to Washington, D.C. to lobby for public 

education on behalf of Orange County school districts, mentioning in particular the contacts he had 

made with our local congressional staffers.


BOARD REPORT, Continued 

4. Mrs. Carrie Buck was pleased to have visited Wagner Elementary School and Travis Ranch School 

and also attended a recent REACH Foundation meeting relative to their fundraising event in March. 

Mrs. Buck thoroughly enjoyed El Dorado High School’s performance of Freckle-Faced Strawberry 

as well as the PTA Founders’ Dinner, commenting on the time she had with teachers and 

principals. Next week, Mrs. Buck plans to attend the OCSBA/ACSA Joint Dinner meeting, the 

Reflections Showcase, and the Special Board Study Session. 

5. Mrs. Carol Downey expressed her appreciation to the delegation of Chinese educators for their 

attendance at the Board meeting. She also shared that she had visited El Camino Real High 

School and was very pleased with the results of modernization on that campus. Mrs. Downey 

participated in Career Day at Esperanza High School and was amazed by the number of business 

professionals who took part in the event. With regard to the Miss Yorba Linda and Miss Placentia 

Teen Pageant, Mrs. Downey indicated she had served on the mock interview panel prior to the 

pageant.
