SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT<br />

• The Superintendent welcomed a delegation of principals from Beijing, China who were participating<br />

in an Overseas Study Experience. Rick Harrington, Program Developer for International<br />

Instructional Development with California State University, Fullerton, spoke briefly, indicating that<br />

the university is serving as a training site for their visit.<br />

• Dr. Domene indicated he had the opportunity to provide opening remarks for a recent Southern<br />

California School Nutrition Association luncheon.<br />

• The Superintendent spoke briefly regarding the Special <strong>Board</strong> Study Session which is planned for<br />

Thursday, <strong>February</strong> 14, <strong>2013</strong>, regarding the development of a new strategic plan for the district.<br />

Invitation to El Dorado High School’s Senior Project Event on May 29, <strong>2013</strong><br />

BOARD REPORT<br />

1. Mrs. Karin Freeman welcomed the delegation of educators from China and expressed how honored<br />

we were to have them in attendance at the <strong>Board</strong> meeting. She indicated she had also appreciated<br />

the opportunity to hear Mr. Ron Bennett’s presentation on the potential fiscal implications of the<br />

State budget on school districts across the state.<br />

2. Mrs. Judi Carmona reported that she had recently had the privilege of seeing the Kraemer Middle<br />

School Marching Band perform at Disneyland. She also attended a performance of Freckle-Faced<br />

Strawberry at El Dorado High School and was pleased to go to the Battle of the Books at which our<br />

students had participated. Mrs. Carmona was pleased to have been invited to serve as a judge for<br />

the Miss <strong>Yorba</strong> <strong>Linda</strong> and Miss <strong>Placentia</strong> Teen Pageant and shared that all of the contestants are<br />

current or past PYLUSD students.<br />

3. Mr. Eric Padget commended the PTA Reflections winners and looks forward to the Reflections<br />

Showcase next week. He also commented on the value of the District’s performing and visual arts<br />

program. The <strong>Board</strong> is dedicated to maintaining a vibrant performing and visual arts program in the<br />

district. Mr. Padget shared briefly regarding his recent trip to Washington, D.C. to lobby for public<br />

education on behalf of Orange County school districts, mentioning in particular the contacts he had<br />

made with our local congressional staffers.

BOARD REPORT, Continued<br />

4. Mrs. Carrie Buck was pleased to have visited Wagner Elementary School and Travis Ranch School<br />

and also attended a recent REACH Foundation meeting relative to their fundraising event in March.<br />

Mrs. Buck thoroughly enjoyed El Dorado High School’s performance of Freckle-Faced Strawberry<br />

as well as the PTA Founders’ Dinner, commenting on the time she had with teachers and<br />

principals. Next week, Mrs. Buck plans to attend the OCSBA/ACSA Joint Dinner meeting, the<br />

Reflections Showcase, and the Special <strong>Board</strong> Study Session.<br />

5. Mrs. Carol Downey expressed her appreciation to the delegation of Chinese educators for their<br />

attendance at the <strong>Board</strong> meeting. She also shared that she had visited El Camino Real High<br />

School and was very pleased with the results of modernization on that campus. Mrs. Downey<br />

participated in Career Day at Esperanza High School and was amazed by the number of business<br />

professionals who took part in the event. With regard to the Miss <strong>Yorba</strong> <strong>Linda</strong> and Miss <strong>Placentia</strong><br />

Teen Pageant, Mrs. Downey indicated she had served on the mock interview panel prior to the<br />

pageant.<br />
