1 Introduction An emergency compost toilet trial was undertaken in October and November 2012 to determine whether compost toilets could be a viable alternative to port-a-loos or chemical toilets in an event that sewerage systems are disrupted. The trial was funded by the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management (MCDEM) Resilience Fund. This report outlines the trial methodology, assesses the potential benefits, and provides an analysis of the findings. It concludes with the recommendations of the Wellington Regional Emergency Management Office (WREMO). 1
