Tafadzwa seeks
$500 for scan
Own Correspondent
MOTHER of a 14-year-old Tafadzwa
Murongoti is appealing to
well-wishers to help her raise
$500 so that her son can undergo
a medical scan at Karanda Mission
Hospital in Mt Darwin.
Easter Kurenga, Tafadzwa’s
mother, said her son is suffering
from a condition known as hydrocephalus
which is a medical
condition in which there is an abnormal
accumulation of cerebrospinal
fluid in the cavities of the
brain.
According to Kurenga, the tube
that helps drain the excess fluid
from Tafadzwa’s brain blocks most
of the time and doctors at Karanda
mission had informed her that he
had to undergo a medical scan so
that they can establish what the
problem is.
“l am appealing to well-wishers
to help me raise $500 so that
Tafadzwa can undergo medical
scan,” said Kurenga.
Help Douglas get hip replacement
Rumbidzai Kaseke
Editorial Assistant
DOUGLAS Chivere (43), affectionately
known as DJ Dadi Fresh by
those in his industry, suffers from
a left side femoral neck fracture
which occurred in April. His medical
records indicate that because of
this femoral neck fracture, blood
flow is reduced thereby posing a
great risk of not healing hence, the
need for a partial hip replacement.
The father of three who makes a
living as a hired disc jockey on
private events says he has failed to
raise money required for the partial
hip replacement.
Braced with his low-cost and
not so comfortable hand-carved
crutches, Douglas explained to
NewsDay how he cannot walk
without experiencing terrible pain
in his left leg.
“I can not visit the bathroom
without assistance from someone
and at times I don’t have a choice,
but to call one of my children to
help me dress up in the event that
their mother is away,” Douglas
said.
According to the quotation
from the orthopaedic specialist,
Douglas needs a total of $4 449 for
jobs so that she can provide for
her family.
“Nyasha’s condition has made
it difficult to provide for my family
and a wheelchair will make it
easy for me to move around with
him looking for piece jobs as he
requires attention all the time,”
she said.
Those who are able to assist
Nyasha with a wheelchair can
contact Patricia on 0778 498 534
the operation.
“I get hired to play music at private
events. Since I experienced
this femur fracture I can no longer
fend for my family and let alone
afford to pay for my operation,”
said Douglas.
Douglas initially sought medical
attention at Parirenyatwa Hospital
and was later referred to an
orthopaedic specialist.
Young girl with rare skin
condition seeks more help
Ropafadzo Mapimhidze
Features Editor
BRIDGET Mandimutsira, aged five, is
seeking over $25 000 to settle a medical
bill with a South African hospital
where a tumour was removed from
her brain.
Bridget first appeared in NewsDay
in 2010 when she had growths on the
mouth, tongue, nostril and forehead
which were successfully removed at a
hospital in Rhondebosch, Cape Town,
South Africa.
She was only two years old then.
“Following the publication $12 000
was raised last year by various wellwishers
resulting in an operation to
remove another growth from her chin
and tongue.
“What we now need is over
$25 000 to settle the balance for the
procedures so far done, although there
also will be a need for yet another operation
to remove growth on her right
cheek,” Bridget’s mother Benedict
Makumbe who lives in Tafara said.
The young girl, who is supposed to
have started Grade Zero this year, was
not able to because her eyes are badly
affected by the skin condition known
as Xeroderma Pigmentosm according
to a letter from the Red Cross War Memorial
Children’s Hospital in SA.
Xeroderma Pigmentosm is a genetic
skin condition that predisposes her to
multiple skin disorders. According to
the letter from the hospital, Bridget
needs excessive treatment and has an
open arrangement with the hospital
to be treated any time because these
services can only be rendered at this
medical institution.
Bridget’s mother says she has no
means of raising such a huge amount
for these procedures and hence she is
again seeking help from well-wishers
Bridget Mandimutsira
for more funds.
“I am yet to get a quotation for
surgery to remove a growth from her
right cheek and the $25 000 does not
include this procedure. I would like to
thank all the people that have assisted
me so far, but the war is not yet over.
“Bridget spends the day indoors to
avoid sunrays and her eyesight is badly
impaired. It is painful to watch your
own child suffer like this and I am urging
Zimbabweans to assist me during
this time of need.
“I also need money for accommodation
at the hospital which costs
about R41 a day and this is minus food
costs. Bridget attends four clinics a
day these include dental, eye, plastic
surgery and dermatology clinics. I do
not know how long these procedures
will take, but it is such a painful experience
to see your child not growing up
like all other children in the neighbourhood,”
Makumbe said.
All those wishing to assist can contact
Makumbe on (00263) 775820441
Positively impact your generation
DEVOTION
Erasmus Makarimayi
Since creation, humanity has
been working to improve
the quality of life on planet
earth. Much research has
been going on to find ways
of making life better and more enjoyable.
There have even been efforts to
harness other planets to contribute to
the wellbeing of life on earth. Studies
are being carried out to find lasting
solutions to the ills of life. Think
tanks and official bodies have been
established to bring development to
mankind. Mankind is working hard to
live a stress free life. Generation after
generation has come and gone but
the world is still not that perfect. It is
God’s desire for each generation to
better the previous and it is your duty
as an individual to positively change
and transform lives.
While every effort is being put to
better our lives and all possible avenues
explored, it has to be understood
that there will always be forces working
against mankind’s advancement.
Whatever format these negative forces
may take, the root cause remains
the devil, Satan, whose sole mission
is to steal, kill and destroy. A closer
look at life will show that development
has not been that smooth. From
the Stone Age to the current age, the
baton has not always been passed
on successively positively. There are
generations that reduced the speed.
Others destroyed what was accomplished
by previous generations. So
instead of doing what they are supposed
to do to advance, they spend
time rebuilding and restoring. Because
of this, we are not at the stage where
we are supposed to be. We are probably
many generations behind.
Man and woman were created with
assignment in a geographical location.
There are certain geographical
locations that have done fairly well,
but they cannot advance so much
way ahead of others because we are
a global village. Although the first and
second worlds appear so much advanced,
they could have been better if
they carried along the third world and
moved on en masse. It is even worse
for an individual country to seek to
advance outside the collective participation
of its continent. This is better
understood if as an individual you
want to succeed and flourish ignoring
your parents and siblings. You need to
equip and empower them so that your
effect will be multiplied.
As you desire to accomplish everything,
always remember that there
are things you will leave untouched in
your generation. King David wanted to
build a temple for God, but God told
him it was going to be his son instead
who would do that and King Solomon
built the temple after he assumed the
throne. There are things that will never
be accomplished by certain generations.
God works through generations.
He introduced His Son, Jesus in perspective
of generations. Matthew 1:17
supports and says, “So all the generations
from Abraham to David are
fourteen generations; and from David
until the carrying away into Babylon
are fourteen generations; and from the
carrying away into Babylon unto Christ
are fourteen generations.” Discover
what you have to do in your generation
so that you won’t be irrelevant.
Refuse to be a generation of destroyers.
The generations before you
built the Great Zimbabwe monuments.
What have you built? They were
thrown in the reserves and built the
huts were you grew up. Now you have
a farm, what have you contributed?
I always get disturbed when we fail
to resettle a few people at Chingwizi
holding camp that were affected by
Tokwe Mukosi floods. God gave the
children of Israel time to advance
stage by stage. He did not drive out
the former inhabitants of the Promised
Land at once. Exodus 23:29-30
reads, “[29] I will not drive them out
from before thee in one year; lest the
land become desolate, and the beast
of the field multiply against thee. [30]
By little and little I will drive them out
from before thee, until thou be increased,
and inherit the land.” God
is so faithful to give each generation
work to do.
There are things that certain generations
will be denied because they
are wasteful, they squander opportunities.
My advice is that at least
maintain what you inherited then you
can develop it or offer more advanced
options. Receive and pass on the baton
with maturity and responsibility.
God’s first commandment to humanity
calls for productivity. Genesis 1:28
says, “[28] And God blessed them,
and God said unto them, Be fruitful,
and multiply, and replenish the earth,
and subdue it: and have dominion
over the fish of the sea, and over the
fowl of the air, and over every living
thing that moveth upon the earth.”
Contribute positively to your generation.
Don’t destroy the good that was
bequeathed to you. Pass on a good
heritage.
You are going somewhere.
