Spring is usually time for the
most important philatelic events
of the year. In 2006 we will meet
at three national level exhibitions:
Edmonton (end of March), Toronto
(mid-April) and Ottawa (May). Then
there are three others next autumn:
BNAPEX, NOVAPEX and *ROYAL
2006 ROYALE* in Calgary. Finally,
there are three very important international
meetings: WASHINGTON 2006 (end of May),
ESPANA ‘06 in October and BELGICA 2006 in November.
Canadian exhibitors should be smiling and excited.
Remember that the January issue of the YPC Quarterly contains
some tricks to help you prepare youngsters to exhibit.
A regular problem we come across when we try to start
a youth philatelic club is to stock up with stamps. If your
youngsters collect mint stamps, you don’t have any choice.
You must buy the stamps at the post office or try to find a
dealer selling old mint stamps at face value. There are still
some around: check at stamp shows. This is the cheapest
way to obtain mint stamps.
For used stamps, you can set up a supply network.
This idea is also worthwhile for your youngsters. Where
will you find large lots of used stamp for free? Try with
municipalities or school councils before they send tax
Le temps des grandes expositions philatéliques arrive et
nous serons bien servis cette année : trois expositions de niveau
national : Edmonton, fin mars, Toronto au milieu avril et
Ottawa au début mai. Ceci sans compter BNAPEX, NOVAPEX
et la Royale de Calgary l’automne prochain. En plus de trois
importants rendez-vous internationaux : Washington fin mai,
l’Espagne en octobre et la Belgique en novembre. Les exposants
canadiens ont de quoi se réjouir. J’en profite pour vous rappeler
que le trimestriel de janvier contenait quelques trucs pour vous
aider à préparer vos jeunes à exposer.
Un autre des problèmes constants pour un club de jeunes
philatélistes est l’approvisionnement en timbres. Si vos jeunes collectionnent
les timbres neufs, il n’y a pas grand chose que vous
puissiez faire. Pour les timbres canadiens, la façon la moins chère
est d’acheter ceux qui sont en circulation aux bureaux de poste et
de trouver un marchand qui accepte de vous en vendre des plus
anciens à la valeur nominale. Il en existe
encore. Vérifiez lors des expositions.

pouvez vous monter un réseau
d’approvisionnement (cette démarche
est aussi valable pour vos jeunes). Qui
contacter pour obtenir de grandes
quantités de timbres à la fois? La
municipalité ou la commission scolaire
lorsqu’elles envoient les comptes de
