The American Red Cross introduces the newly revised<br />
Lifeguarding program, which trains lifeguards to act<br />
with speed and confidence in emergency situations<br />
both in and out of the water. Topics include: water<br />
rescue skills, surveillance and recognition, first aid,<br />
breathing and cardiac emergencies, CPR, AED and<br />
more. The new program reflects the latest ECC<br />
science and findings from the 2011 United States<br />
Lifeguard Standards Coalition Report.<br />

Register for a Lifeguard<br />
Training Course<br />
Successful completion of this American Red Cross<br />
sponsored course certifies you in Lifeguard/First<br />
Aide/CPR/AED. Participants must be older than 15<br />
years of age and pass the prerequisite skills test<br />
administered on the first day of class. Prerequisite:<br />
300-yard swim, tread water for two minutes using<br />
only the legs and a 10-pound brick retrieval from<br />
7-10 foot depth.<br />
Course Cost: $212/member, $242 guest (includes<br />
materials)<br />

Times: Friday 4–8 p.m., Sat – Wed, noon–8 p.m.<br />

register for a Lifeguard Review<br />
A lifeguard training review will include CPR/<br />
AED for Professional Rescuers review and a test.<br />
Even if your CPR/AED Pro certification is current,<br />
CPR/AED skills are fully incorporated into the<br />
lifeguarding lessons.<br />
Days/Times: Friday, 4–7 p.m. and Saturday, 1–4<br />
p.m. You must attend both sessions. Friday will<br />
include key updates to the American Red Cross<br />
Lifeguarding program, and Saturday will include<br />
practical skills practice and testing.<br />
Certification issued: Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/<br />
AED, valid for two years<br />
Dates: April 13 & 14, April 20 & 21, April 27 & 28,<br />
May 4 & 5<br />
Cost: $125/member, $145/guest<br />

Rescuers Challenge<br />
Based on the latest science, the American Red<br />
Cross updated its CPR/AED skills. Prepare by<br />
reviewing the skills in the latest version of the<br />
Lifeguard Training manual or the CPR/AED for<br />
Professional Rescuers manual. There will be no<br />
review or practice time during the appointment.<br />
Certification Issued: CPR/AED for Professional<br />
Rescuers and Health Care Providers, valid for two<br />
years<br />
Days/Times: Challenges are available on weekday<br />
evenings or weekends by appointment only.<br />
Cost: $39/member, $55/guest<br />
