Pilates is a cutting edge
program that can positively
enhance the muscular
skeletal systems of men,
women, children, athletes
and non–athletes alike. Due
to the non-impact nature,
the work is very effective
for injury prevention,
rehabilitation and increasing
athletic performance.
Developed in the early
1900s by a German-born
athlete and physical therapy
pioneer, Joseph Pilates
used specially designed
equipment to dramatically
improve strength, flexibility,
coordination and posture.
One of
the fastest
Pilates Instructors
Jennifer Saltzman is trained
and certified by Master Teacher
Romana Kryzanowska, and has been
teaching Pilates since 1995. She ran
her own Pilates Studio in Seattle
for six years before bringing her
expertise to the Bellevue Club in 2001. With
years of experience in body-centered therapies,
diet and nutrition and a background in modern
dance, Jennifer’s teaching is rooted in the
integration of the body. She gives her clients
simple and effective tools, enabling them to
feel their core muscles quickly and deeply. She
assists clients in reaching their full potential in
this dynamic method of body conditioning by
bringing intuition and creativity to her classes.
Elizabeth Hartpence became
involved in Pilates in 2001 after
struggling with chronic knee
and ankle injuries. She began
taking classes at Pilates Seattle
International, eventually enrolling
in the Pilates apprenticeship program. After
600 hours of training, Elizabeth received
her Authentic Pilates teacher certification in
Jan. 2003. “My real education as a teacher
has come since then helping hundreds of
people improve their core strength, overall
flexibility and isometric control of their
muscles,” she says.
Nancy Black’s interest in the
fitness industry started early. While
still in high school, she worked part
time in a health club, eventually
earning her bachelor’s in kinesiology
from University of Washington.
After working as a fitness director at a large
Seattle-area health club and raising her four
children, Nancy was introduced to Pilates at
the Bellevue Club in 2000. Fascinated with
the workout system, she earned her Pilates
certification in 2003.
Nancy strongly believes in the Pilates method
because of its considerable fitness benefits
without extra impact or stress on the joints.
Nancy is thrilled about the Club’s new Pilates
facility and expanded program offerings and
she works with all levels of clients. Besides
being a mom and Pilates instructor, Nancy
enjoys bicycling, running, tennis and skiing.
