awards Ralph K. Hillquist Scholarship Award Carl Vogel University of Hartford Mr. Vogel is a student at the University of Hartford enrolled in the Acoustical Engineering and Music B.S.E. Program. In 2008, Mr. Vogel worked as a summer intern at General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT, analyzing force response and vibrational analysis on submarine components. In summer 2007, he built and assembled Power Supply Systems for induction furnaces. He interfaced with engineers on interpretation of product blueprints relative to manufacturing process. For the past two years, he has been employed on campus by the Office of Residential Life as a Residential Assistant. Mr. Vogel has Achieved Presidents List (3.75+) every semester. He is a recipient of Emeriti Association Scholarship, Myrtle E. O‘Connor Scholarship, and the Sittard Scholarship. He is a member of the Acoustical Society of America, Tau Beta Pi-The Engineering Honor Society, and Sigma Alpha Pi-The Society of Leadership and Success. In addition to projects and coursework, he is involved in leadership positions for the University of Hartford Acoustical Society of America Chapter and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity. He is also a member of the Ultimate Frisbee team and Pep Band on campus. Mr. Vogel plans to attain a position at an applied engineering corporation involving acoustics, noise, and vibration control. Additional goals include obtaining a masters degree in Acoustics. Ralph K. Hillquist Mr. Hillquist was a retiree of the General Motors Proving Ground, where he worked in the Noise & Vibration Laboratory. He authored or co-authored 25 technical papers, with two being published in refereed journals. In addition to being a Member of SAE International since 1961 and a Fellow Grade Member of SAE since 2004, and recipient of the SAE Forest R. McFarland Award. Mr. Hillquist was a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America, a founding and Board Certified Member of the Institute of Noise Control Engineering, and a member of Tau Beta Pi. He founded the Sound Measurement Workshop in 1974, which eventually became the SAE Noise and Vibration Conference and Exhibition. Announcing Ralph K. Hillquist Lifetime Achievement Award This biennial award will recognize individuals through their continued contribution to ground vehicle NVH.
