Dr. Thompson has over 30 publications and regularly organizes and chairs <strong>SAE</strong> and INCE related conference<br />
sessions. In 1994 he won the Superior Paper Award at the annual Tire Society Conference. Dr. Thompson was<br />
elected to <strong>SAE</strong> Fellow Grade in 2006. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the States of Michigan and Ohio.<br />
Completing his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech in 1973, Dr. Thompson<br />
continued on there and received his Masters of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1974. In 1979 he<br />
received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University.<br />
Dr. Thompson is currently the Great Lakes Regional Manager for Brüel & Kjær North America. He is responsible<br />
for a wide range of activities including the sales, support, engineering services, and marketing in the Great Lakes<br />
region. He is also a leader for automotive activities in the Americas and Engineering Services on a global basis.<br />
Throughout his career Dr. Thompson, has led the development of innovative NVH measurement and analysis<br />
techniques, vehicle tests systems, software and hardware, and several international standards committees.<br />
Prior to joining Brüel & Kjær, Dr. Thompson work for Link Engineering. At Link he was instrumental in developing<br />
new technologies and business opportunities. Dr. Thompson previously worked for The Goodyear Tire & Rubber<br />
Company where he was the Chief Engineer for Acoustics and Engineering Mechanics. Dr. Thompson currently<br />
chairs the <strong>SAE</strong> Brake NVH Standards Committee. In addition, he is the current Vice Chairman of the <strong>SAE</strong> Noise<br />
& Vibration Conference. Dr. Thompson was elected to <strong>SAE</strong> Fellow Grade in 2006. He is also a member of the<br />
Board of Directors for the Institute of Noise Control Engineering (INCE). He has the distinction of being an INCE<br />
Board Certified Noise Control Engineer. He is also a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers<br />
and the Acoustical Society of America. Dr. Thompson has over 30 publications and regularly organizes and<br />
chairs <strong>SAE</strong> and INCE related conference sessions. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the States of<br />
Michigan and Ohio.<br />
