About St John's May 2012 - The Church of St John The Baptist ...

By the time the June edition of About St John’s appears Father Robin
Jones will be the Vicar and we will be embarking upon a new chapter
in the life of the parish. We should do all that we can to welcome Father
Robin and his family and to support him as he leads us forward in
worship and mission. I hope that as many of the congregation as
possible will be present on the evening of May 24 to support Father
Robin at his induction and to welcome the many visitors who will be
coming to St John’s for the occasion. We will be serving refreshments
in the Parish Room after the induction and Marigold Seal would be
grateful for any offers to contribute food for this (and for the Diamond
Jubilee tea on Sunday 3 June).
This is also the moment to give thanks to God for all the good people,
priests and laymen and women, who have supported us during the
interregnum. It has been a great encouragement that in difficult times
so many people stepped forward to take on new responsibilities and
have worked tirelessly to maintain the worship and life of the parish.
They are too numerous to mention by name, but an exception must
be made for Father Barry, whose faithful service and wise words have
been a source of strength to us throughout the interregnum We owe
a debt of gratitude to him and to all the others who have helped us.
Looking back over the last year, I take particular satisfaction in the
fact that St John’s supported the creation of the loavesNfishes food
bank last summer and has continued to support it and provide it with
a home. These are hard times for some people in Sevenoaks, espe-
