Cultural Perspectives on the Salt Song Trail and its Associated Natural Features and<br />

Landmarks<br />

The Salt Song Trail follows a circuitous route from its origin at AviNava near Lake Havasu,<br />

northeast along the Colorado River to Utah then turns west and south through eastern and<br />

southern Nevada. It enters Cali<strong>for</strong>nia near Mount Charleston then loops southward in the<br />

vicinity of Barstow continuing eastward through the 29 Palms area be<strong>for</strong>e continuing<br />

northwesterly to the point of origin. Landmarks and natural features situated along the trail are<br />

connected to specific songs, ceremonies, and dances.<br />

Creative Cultural Resource Management with Reduced Services and Limited Funds<br />

Presentation will describe how State Parks Cultural Resource Managers are responding to<br />

reduced services within the parks. What this means to resources that are already impacted by<br />

deferred maintenance and limited funding. Will cover the institution of a full cultural resource<br />

management policy chapter <strong>for</strong> the first time in State Park history, a strategic plan <strong>for</strong> how to<br />

prepare archaeological sites and historic buildings in parks that experience temporary or<br />

extended closures. How people outside State Parks need to assist in these endeavors to preserve<br />

the history of the state.<br />
