her work on community corrections,<br />
homelessness and mental illness issues.<br />
“A judge has the unique ability to<br />
be a convener, to call a meeting to<br />
which everyone will come. A judge can<br />
encourage parties to set aside turf battles<br />
and to partner together to solve complex<br />
and difficult issues,” Justice Stratton said.<br />
Justice O’Connor reflected on the<br />
challenges and rewards of being a Justice.<br />
“<strong>The</strong>re are no easy cases heard before<br />
the <strong>Supreme</strong> <strong>Court</strong>,” she said. “It is the<br />
challenge that the cases present that keeps<br />
this job so very interesting.<br />
“Serving on the <strong>Court</strong> has been as<br />
rewarding as it is challenging. I thoroughly<br />
enjoy the work, the colleagues and the<br />
staff at the <strong>Court</strong>. I continue to be grateful<br />
for the opportunity to serve in such a<br />
meaningful capacity,” Justice O’Connor<br />
said.<br />
Justice Stratton was appointed to<br />
the <strong>Supreme</strong> <strong>Court</strong> March 7, 1996, to<br />
complete the term of former Justice<br />
Craig Wright. She first was elected to the<br />
<strong>Supreme</strong> <strong>Court</strong> in November 1996. Justice<br />
O’Connor first was elected in November<br />
2002.<br />
