Due to the closing of Club Luna, Carnival has 

moved to Friday 13th February at The Caves, in 

Edinburgh. 

Carnival is a Venetian Masquerade Ball - Dark, 

Mysterious, Erotic and Decadent. The show 

features the finest cabaret, circus and burlesque 

performers from across the UK, and will be the first 

of a variety of themed show nights and stylish 

events in Edinburgh hosted by Red Crow VIP. 

Carnival will be held in the unique and 

atmospheric venue, The Caves situated in the heart 

of Edinburgh's Old Town featuring the finest 

cabaret, circus and burlesque performers from 

across the UK

Rumours have abounded for years that 

popular venue Club eGo/Luna was 

going to close. And finally it has 

happened! It’s been a hectic time for club 

promoters, who were given virtually no 

warning before the club was pulled out from 

under their feet. But in true professional 

style, this has not daunted the promoters of 

clubs such as Vibe, Fever and Taste who 

have already secured themselves new 

premises! 

Vibe will now settle into GHQ every 

Tuesday night, and Mr Longworth assures 

that the move promises better things all 

round for regulars. Better drinks promos, 

better cabaret, more freebies, more dancers 

and more surprises! And with a topless 

barman being the first of these surprises 

and treats to come over the following weeks, 

James promises further expansion plans to 

come. I wonder if that will include a topless 

barmaid! In keeping with the change, Vibe 

has re-branded and is now called Vibe ng 

(new generation). 

Gordon of Taste and Fever fame has 

also promptly whipped into action, and 

established new homes for both club nights. 

The Final Fever @ Luna party was due to go 

ahead on Saturday 7th February, but due to 

the premature closure this night will now go 

ahead as a free party at The Street instead. 

Quick thinking! Join DJs Kaupuss and Price 

there! And from then on, Fever will be held 

on the 3rd Saturday of every month at Faith 

in The Cowgate. What a fantastic venue! The 

first Fever kicks off at Faith on Saturday 

21st March. 

Taste will now relocate to The GRV in 

Guthrie Street, on the 1st Sunday of every 

month. First date is to be Sunday 1st March. 

Quick thinking from all our club promoters – 

ensuring we don’t have to suffer withdrawal 

effects from our favourite nights! 

For all of you who have put off cleaning 

out the back of your wardrobe, here’s the 

very thing – the first ever official LGBT 

Swap Shop! Being held at Deep Blue, the 

Blue Moon’s basement bar, this event is an 

ideal opportunity to bring along unwanted

those old clothes you’ve been 

procrastinating about getting rid of. Take 

them along to Deep Blue on Saturday 31st 

Jan from 1-4pm, and you can walk away

Starting the month off in style is 

Poptastic, that UK-wide phenomenon of 

queer alternative clubbing which is brought 

to GHQ on the first Friday of every month. 

That’s Friday 6th February and Friday 6th 

March, for the forthcoming months. 

Featuring Phil Bakstad in Room 1 with Indie 

and electro, and Paul McAvoy in Room 2 

with Retropop and Trash, doors open at 

9pm. 

Starting Valentine’s weekend off in 

style is Love Furburger, being held on 

spooky-for-some Friday 13th February. This 

lesbian-only love fest will commence at 

11pm at GHQ, with the pre-club at Planet 

where free guest passes are available. 

The lovin’ continues on Saturday 14th 

February, with the bi-annual LGL 

Switchboard Ball – this time aptly themed 

‘Cupid’s Ball’. Tickets are available in

available at the door. This is the ultimate 

dress-up occasion, where fancy dress, kilts, 

formal and smart casual are most 

appreciated – so get lookin’ impressive and

Café Habana are hosting another of 

their fabulous fundraisers combining 

Valentine’s Day celebrations with LGBT 

History Month, on Sunday 15th February. 

Kick off is 5pm, when they promise fun and 

frolics together with a bumper raffle with 

prizes galore, karaoke, DJ requests, guest 

cabaret and drinks promos – not to mention 

the usual Habana party spirit which we’ve all 

come to expect and love. Funds raised will 

go to LGBT Youth Scotland. 

If you’re feeling intellectual toward the 

end of the month, get yourself to the all new 

World Famous Regent Bar Quiz. Being held 

on Tuesday 24th February (and every last 

Tuesday of the month thereafter), there are 

top prizes for the winning team and free 

nibbles for every quiz contestant. Come 

down and support the launch of the first 

ever regular quiz night at The Regent, and 

relax on the sofas with a drink as you put 

your general knowledge to the test!! 

A brand spanking new night hit the 

scene last month, called Electrosexual. It’s 

being held at CC Blooms on the last Sunday 

of the month – forthcoming dates being 

Sunday 22nd February and Sunday 29th 

March. CC Blooms is usually famous for its 

pure cheese policy, but things are about to 

get down right filthy with DJ Lucky Luciano! 

He will be spinning out the best electro this 

side of London, drawing inspiration from the 

underground scene with a mix of 

unashamedly dirty bootlegs and cheeky 

electro beats. Each month will feature a 

specific theme, like the ‘Glo Sticks’ party in 

February – how very old skool! And of 

course CC’s alternative club, Deviation, 

continues to be held on the 3rd Thursday of 

the month – growing in popularity as they 

feature the best of rock, metal and 

alternative. Future dates for Deviation are 

Thursday 19th February and Thursday 19th 

March. Pre-club at Planet Out. 

Now for all the ladies who took 

advantage of Pink Links’ Speed Dating for 

Women extraordinaire last year, the fantastic 

news is that it’s back with a vengeance!! 

Why waste time chatting to incompatible 

prospective partners? Ditch the pleasantries 

and bag the babe of your dreams with this 

fab new monthly speed dating night! It’s 

being held at Deep Blue, which offers the 

perfect subterranean secluded space and 

kicks off on Friday 6th March. It will be held 

monthly thereafter, on the first Friday of the 

month. The event will be hosted by dating 

hostess Ms Liz. If you want to meet women 

in a safe space, this is the perfect way to do

Everything’s changing at Planet of late, 

and for the better we must add! They’re now 

open every day from 1pm-1am, which 

makes it the perfect place to go if you fancy 

a liquid lunch over a game of pool. Prices 

have crashed as Planet launched their 

credit-crunch anti-dote, a massive price 

crash that features off-peak drinks from £1 

and on-peak drinks from £1.50! It’s been 

confirmed that they will be showing all Six 

Nations Rugby fixtures on their huge screen 

throughout February, and they are also 

planning a monthly killer-pool competition. 

Every Thursday, they will feature Freddie’s 

Karaoke and Carry on Camping prize draw, 

from 9pm onwards. 

Just a reminder that Playgirl Mansions 

is going strong at Lulu on George Street, 

every Sunday from 10pm. With free entry

doesn’t come at a price! Featuring DJ Trendy 

Wendy and guests, this is the ultimate in 

laidback lounging and guilty pleasures as 

they entertain with their cutting edge, 

electric discos and classic house. 

The LGBT Centre for Health and 

Wellbeing are offering a plethora of exciting 

new activities to get involved in. On Friday 

13th February (6.30-9pm) the Centre is 

hosting an LGBT History Film Night. They 

shall feature two short films, one about gay 

men in the Highlands and a second about 

older gay men. Following discussion, they 

will then show ‘Celluloid Closet’ - a 

documentary about Hollywood’s portrayal of 

the LGBT community. With buckets of 

popcorn available, this is an evening not to 

be missed! Alongside the Film Evening, 

they are also putting together a ‘Tales of the 

City’ map. They are aiming to collate as 

much information from the local LGBT 

community as possible. Where did you go

LGBT History Month is celebrated in 

Highland with a few events. On 

Thursday 26th February LGBT History 

Month Story Telling, Help the Aged, Terrence 

Higgins Trust Scotland, Girlzone and 

Highland LGBT Forum are collaborating in 

setting up an event from 6-9pm at Terrence 

Higgins Trust Scotland, 34 Waterloo Place 

Inverness. 

Join them for an evening of sharing our 

stories as lesbians, gay men bisexual men 

and women and transgendered people. They 

have six older speakers who will share their 

experiences and then others will be invited 

to join in. The idea is to celebrate LGBT 

History Month and to bring people of 

different ages together. There will be a High 

tea provided and an opportunity to discuss 

possible future events or plans for 

intergenerational LGBT work. The event is 

free and if you are an older person who 

requires transport please let us know.

On Wednesday 25th February there is a 

LGBT History month Film evening showing 

Dangerous Living: Coming out in the 

developing world. It is the first 

documentary to deeply explore the lives of 

gay and lesbian people in non-western 

cultures. Traveling to five different 

continents, we hear the heartbreaking and 

triumphant stories of gays and lesbians 

from Egypt, Honduras, Kenya, Thailand and 

elsewhere, where most occurrences of 

oppression receive no media coverage at all. 

By sharing the personal stories coming out 

of developing nations, Dangerous living 

sheds light on an emerging global 

movement striving to end discrimination 

and violence against gay, lesbian, bisexual 

and transgendered people. 

Come and watch this movie at Terrence 

Higgins Trust on 25 February at 7pm, 34

To increase our support for the LGBT 

community in Highland a monthly social 

evening for MSM - men who engage in 

(sexual) relationships with men (whether 

they identify as being gay, bisexual or not) 

and a monthly social evening for WSW - 

women who engage in (sexual) relationships 

with women (whether they identify as being 

lesbian, bisexual or not) in Inverness. Just 

come along, chill out, bring some friends,

evening, The Pink Castle, was a great

Sunday 8th March - the Pink Castle, 

Walk and Talk. Start at the Dores Beach car 

park and walk around the Torr. The walk 

should not take more than an hour, followed 

by tea in the newly revamped Dores Inn. The 

question for consideration then will be ‘What 

good comes from being gay?’.

level circular day walk from Bridge of Allan

Hey folks. February already, the 

shortest month, so I think it is fair to say 

this article will be at least 10% shorter than 

usual. 

I’ll start with Diversitay, who are seeing 

in their 15th year and start it with a special 

edition of the newsletter in February to 

celebrate this birthday as well as LGBT 

History Month. The phone line will be open 

every Monday from 7-9.30pm. Other events 

that Beth has told me about from the 

Diversitay group is the next women’s disco 

will be on Saturday 7th March in 

partnership with International Women’s 

Week - more details will follow. Diversitay 

will be attending a drop-in LGBT lunch for 

students at Angus College on Thursday 12th 

February starting at Noon (thanks for the 

reminder that there is life out of Dundee – 

anyone else with other relevant events out 

there in the region then please tell me!) 

Diversitay are also organising a “night at the 

cinema” at some point in February to go 

and see Milk, more details if you give them 

a ring or on their website

continues on the last Thursday of the month 

(26th of February) in the DVA. 

Right, so a combination of January 

laziness, lack of funds, work and thinking 

about cycling means that I haven’t been 

able to get much info about the pubs and 

clubs this month. What I have managed to 

get is that, with Valentine’s Day falling on a 

Saturday this month, they will be up to

Brooklyn’s and Out will be having various

club. Along the road the Gauger will also no 

doubt have something on for the night, 

along with the usual karaoke on Wednesday 

and Sunday with Annie “Bananie” and Ross 

DJ’ing Friday and Saturday (who has now 

also started working behind the bar). 

Now as readers last month will know 

Joyce (who runs the Gauger) had said to 

me she was going to open up a new club. 

What I have so far managed to gather since 

then is that the potential venue is to be 

above Ozzies across the road from the 

Gauger, although word has it that plans 

have run into licensing problems at this 

time. I’ve still to decide whether another 

club will be a good thing or not; sure some 

competition may be good for the punters, 

but I wouldn’t want to see Dundee end up 

like Aberdeen where one venue opens and 

another shuts – in the few years I was up 

there I can recall a long list of pubs and 

clubs that only saw a few years. 

Finally Jocks Sauna, who sound like 

they had a reasonable crowd for the 

sportswear night although possibly not all 

that much effort made by participants 

(would have thought the Olympics last year 

could have inspired some!). The next 

themed night will be Leather and Rubber 

on Tuesday 17th February, and tickets can 

be purchased in advance for the discount

Hello love doves- how’s tricks? Just 

before I jet off to Rome for a romantic 

getaway (well as romantic as a fat bird with 

PMS and an old man with acute allergies on 

a budget city break can possibly be…) 

thought I would drop in and give you the 

scoop on what’s happening in everyone’s 

favourite city in the month of February!

aptly called ‘Be there Bitch!’ with Djs Nicky 

Modlin and Neeb mixing everything from

Del's Factor which is a singing contest to 

see what talent is out there with weekly

Football Team News 

After much discussion, and some 

ridiculous and hilarious suggestions, 

Aberdeen’s gay football team will now be 

known as The Granite City Stormer’s FC. 

(Merchandise to follow, haha) Now that they 

have a name, look out for the new logo 

which is being developed and the brand 

spanking new website which should go live

January has been a busy month for the 

team. As well as a successful trip to 

Edinburgh (pics on the bebo page), they 

have officially named the team, had their 

first AGM, elected a committee and started 

the weekly training sessions! Last Month 

the star players went down to Edinburgh to 

have a weekend with the Hot Scots FC, 

Edinburgh’s gay footy team, and to support 

them in a gay league match against the 

Nottingham Ball Bois. The weekend was 

brilliant fun and they look forward to having 

the Hot Scots FC up to the ‘Deen some time

Thursday 15th January saw the team’s 

first AGM go with great success. The boys 

have made an action plan for the coming

done. Volunteers are just as important as 

players! Get in touch if that appeals to you.

Aberdeen venues Cheerz, Foundation, 

The Market Arms and Wellmans are still 

keeping busy despite the credit crunch 

kicking in. 

Cheerz is open 7 days a week from 

4.30pm with drinks promos and 

entertainment including the Quiz, which is 

back after its much deserved winter holiday 

every Thursday night with the queen o’ the 

quiz Mike Smith. Following the fabulous 

Rocky Horror night in November the next 

theme night is Valentine’s on Saturday 14th 

February with love songs, karaoke and more 

with DJ Steve Motion to get the night going. 

Right next door to Cheerz you’ll find the 

friendly Market Arms open from 11am- 

11pm Monday to Saturday and later on a 

Sunday. Join Malcolm and the team for 

Karaoke and cheap drink but be prepared for 

the usual local bar style banter with the 

staff. 

Foundation is now offering free entry 

most nights of the week. On Friday and 

Saturday there still might be a charge for 

getting in after Midnight but at £1.50 a drink 

before then and drinks promos thereafter 

it’s still a great place to end your night out
