‣ The Community Development Block Grant program (CDBG) holds public<br />
hearings annually in conjunction with its Annual Action Plan and seeks<br />
public comment on its Performance Report prepared for the U.S. Dept <strong>of</strong><br />
Housing and Urban Development. In addition, public hearings are held for<br />
each grant awarded.<br />
1.6 The <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Commerce</strong> is actively involved in the community. During<br />
the Christmas season, each division “adopts” a family in need, collecting and<br />
distributing gifts and food. The Agency also participates in American Red<br />
Cross Blood Drives, Harvest Hope Food drives, and several other charitable<br />
activities.<br />
Category 2 – Strategic Planning<br />
2.1 The Agency has recognized the value <strong>of</strong> building the <strong>state</strong>’s economy around<br />
the interdependent industries and businesses that constitute economic<br />
sectors as its primary objective.<br />
2.2 Each division has developed measurable goals that enhance accountability and<br />
good stewardship <strong>of</strong> taxpayer’s dollars.<br />
2.3 The <strong>Department</strong> has developed a unique marketing and communications<br />
strategy involving a comprehensive approach to market the benefits <strong>of</strong> doing<br />
business in <strong>South</strong> <strong>Carolina</strong>. Exposure will be gained through search engine<br />
optimization, search engine marketing, social media, traditional advertising in<br />
industry publications and participation in trade shows. This marketing plan will<br />
help tell <strong>South</strong> <strong>Carolina</strong>'s business story and create an opportunity to<br />
communicate with prospective investors why <strong>South</strong> <strong>Carolina</strong> is an ideal location<br />
for their business.<br />
