International Investment Direct foreign investment in South Carolina continued to be strong in 2011. The Agency recruited investment from 62 international firms, which produced $3.7 billion announced investment and 9,269 announced new jobs. Japanese firms led the way in capital investment, accounting for 42% of the total international capital investment. Recruitment to rural South Carolina or areas not part of an MSA accounted for roughly 7.4% of capital investment and 22.5% of job creation where 21.3% of the State’s workforce resides.
