EVENING AUTHOR LECTURE
7:30 P.M. ...............Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Infidel
“The Quran is not a holy document” but a “tribal version” of history that “spreads a culture that is
brutal, bigoted, controlling of women, and harsh in war...a culture that generates more backwardness
with every generation,” says Ayaan Hirsi Ali. This internationally renowned author of The Caged Virgin
and filmmaker of Submission now tells her astonishing story - from her traditional Muslim childhood in
Somalia, Saudi Arabia and Kenya, to her intellectual awakening in Holland, to her life under armed
guard in America. Subjected to childhood genital mutilation and a forced arranged marriage, Ali has now
become an activist for the rights of Muslim women and an outspoken critic of Islam.
“I was born Jewish in Israel. Later, in America, I became
Jewish. My work is an ongoing journey into the light.
I create meditative spaces, utilizing ancient Kabbalistic
wisdom, erecting weightless souls and transparent beings.
In this process, I engage with the energy of light, which
results in the
permeation of
stillness and joy.”
