(2) Lockable drug cabinets, drawers, closets or rooms.<br />
(3) Drug service trays and/or carts.<br />
(4) Drug preparation counter area and convenient water source.<br />
(5) Reference materials containing drug monographs on all drugs<br />
in use in the facility. Such monographs shall include information<br />
concerning generic and brand names, if applicable, available<br />
strengths, and dosage forms and pharmacological data including<br />
indications and side effects.<br />
(b) Emergency supplies shall be readily available at each<br />
correctional treatment center. Emergency drug supplies shall meet<br />
the following requirements:<br />
(1) Legend drugs shall only be stored in the emergency supply,<br />
under the following conditions:<br />
(A) Injectable supplies <strong>of</strong> legend drugs shall be limited to a<br />
maximum <strong>of</strong> six single doses in ampules or vials or one container <strong>of</strong><br />
the smallest available multi–dose vial and shall be in sealed, unused<br />
containers.<br />
(B) Sublingual or inhalation emergency drugs shall be limited to<br />
single sealed containers <strong>of</strong> the smallest available size.<br />
(C) Not more than ten emergency drugs in solid, oral dosage form<br />
or suppository dosage form for anti–infective, anti–diarrhea,<br />
anti–nausea or analgesic use may be stored if in sealed containers. Not<br />
more than four doses <strong>of</strong> any one drug may be so stored.<br />
(2) The emergency drug supply shall be stored in a portable<br />
container which is sealed in such a manner that the tamper–pro<strong>of</strong> seal<br />
must be broken to gain access to the drugs. A licensed nurse shall<br />
notify the pharmacist when drugs have been used from the emergency<br />
kit or when the seal has been broken. Drugs used from the kit shall<br />
be replaced within seventy–two hours and the supply resealed by the<br />
pharmacist.<br />
(3) The contents <strong>of</strong> the supply shall be listed on the outside <strong>of</strong> the<br />
container.<br />
(4) The supply shall be checked at least once monthly by the<br />
pharmacist.<br />
(5) Separate records <strong>of</strong> use shall be maintained for drugs<br />
administered from the supply. Such records shall include the name<br />
and dose <strong>of</strong> the drug administered, name <strong>of</strong> the patient, the date and<br />
time <strong>of</strong> administration and the signature <strong>of</strong> the person administering<br />
the dose.<br />
(6) A correctional treatment center with a licensed pharmacy on the<br />
premises shall make the emergency drug supply accessible without<br />
making it necessary to enter either the pharmacy or drug storage room<br />
during hours when the pharmacist is not available. Access to the<br />
supply shall be limited to designated registered nurses. Records <strong>of</strong><br />
drugs taken from the supply shall be maintained and the pharmacist<br />
shall be notified <strong>of</strong> such use. The records shall include the name and<br />
strength <strong>of</strong> the drug, the amount taken, the date and time, the name <strong>of</strong><br />
the inmate–patient to whom the drug was administered, and the<br />
signature <strong>of</strong> the registered nurse. The pharmacist shall be responsible<br />
for maintenance <strong>of</strong> the supply and assuring that all drugs are properly<br />
labeled and stored. The drug supply shall contain that type and<br />
quantity <strong>of</strong> drugs necessary to meet the immediate needs <strong>of</strong><br />
inmate–patients.<br />

§ 79673. Dental Service.<br />
Dental service means the provision <strong>of</strong> emergency dental care and<br />
may include diagnostic, preventive, or corrective procedures<br />
performed by dentists with appropriate staff, space, equipment, and<br />
supplies.<br />

§ 79675. Dental Service—General Requirements.<br />
(a) Written policies and procedures for the scope <strong>of</strong> services to be<br />
provided shall be developed and maintained by the person responsible<br />
for the service. Procedures shall be approved by the administration.<br />
(b) The responsibility and the accountability <strong>of</strong> the dental service<br />
to the administration shall be defined.<br />
(c) There shall be a well–defined plan for oral health care, based on<br />
patient need, the size <strong>of</strong> the treatment center and the type <strong>of</strong> service<br />
provided.<br />
(d) There shall be a well–organized plan for emergency dental care.<br />
(e) There shall be a record <strong>of</strong> all dental services provided to the<br />
inmate–patient and this shall be made a part <strong>of</strong> the inmate–patient’s<br />
medical record.<br />
(f) Periodically, an appropriate committee <strong>of</strong> staff members shall<br />
evaluate the services provided and make appropriate<br />
recommendations to the treatment center administration.<br />

§ 79677. Dental Service Staff.<br />
(a) A dentist shall have overall responsibility for the dental service.<br />
(b) The dental service shall be staffed by a sufficient number <strong>of</strong><br />
dentists along with auxiliary dental personnel to render proper dental<br />
care.<br />
(c) When dental hygienists or dental laboratory technicians are<br />
employed, they shall work under the supervision <strong>of</strong> the dentist who is<br />
responsible for the dental service.<br />

§ 79679. Dental Service Equipment and Supplies.<br />
(a) There shall be equipment, instruments and supplies maintained<br />
to meet the needs <strong>of</strong> the services <strong>of</strong>fered.<br />
(b) There shall be equipment for sterilization <strong>of</strong> instruments and<br />
supplies.<br />
(c) All equipment installed shall comply with standards <strong>of</strong><br />
infection control as defined by the infection control committee, whose<br />
duties and responsibilities are delineated in Section 79781(d)(2) <strong>of</strong><br />
this Chapter.<br />
(d) The following materials shall be available for immediate use<br />
whenever dental treatment is provided:<br />
(1) Oxygen.<br />
(2) Appropriate drugs.<br />
(3) Resuscitation equipment.<br />
(e) Radiographic equipment shall meet the requirements <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>California</strong> Code <strong>of</strong> Regulations, Title 17, Chapter 5, Subchapter 4,<br />
Group 1, Article 1, commencing with Section 30100 which is hereby<br />
incorporated by reference.<br />

§ 79681. Dental Service Space.<br />
(a) There shall be adequate space maintained for the dental service.<br />
(b) There shall be facilities for dental radiography.<br />
(c) There shall be space provided for the sterilization and storage<br />
<strong>of</strong> instruments and lockable storage for bulk supplies.<br />
(d) There shall be a secure storage area for patient records.<br />

§ 79683. Dietary Service.<br />
Dietary service means the provision <strong>of</strong> nutritionally adequate food<br />
for inmate–patients with appropriate staff, space, equipment and<br />
supplies.<br />
