AQUILA.
The Colne Valley Railway’s Pullman Car AQUILA has re-entered traffic after the major rebuilding
work which has taken place over the last year.
As can be seen the final lettering and lining has yet to be completed, and this is the first use of
Williamson’s paint at this Railway (which shows the difference from the brown previously used on
the adjacent vehicles. This complete end has been completely rebuilt and the ugly wiring box on the
other side has been removed, with the electrics re-routed underneath.
The cars roof now overlaps over the end panel – previously it went inside causing water to get inside
the panels.
Originally covered within Coupé News May 2010 Issue No.87. Since then our very excellent
craftsman Syd Hales with assistance of Ashley Orrow have rebuilt the vestibule end from scratch
using handmade templates taken from the pieces of the end frame that had not completely rotted
away.
We found early on that trying to take dimensions from the other end would not work as the two
coach ends were not identical.
