MAINTENANCE & CAR CARE — Engine Belt Tension<br />
Belt Tension :<br />
Check the condition of belts on the engine. Examine the edges of the<br />
belt for cracks or fraying.<br />
Check the tension of the belt by pushing on it with your thumb midway<br />
between the pulleys for the alternator belt, power steering pump belt<br />
and A.C. compressor belt. If the belt tension is not proper i.e. it gets<br />
deflected more than specified, get it attended to at the nearest<br />
Authorised <strong>Service</strong> outlet.<br />
Belt tension adjustment :<br />
A. Alternator belt adjustment :<br />
1. Loosen both slider mounting screws (H) on alternator bracket.<br />
2. Adjust the belt tension by turning tensioner screw (F).<br />
3. Alternator belt tension is correct, if it can be depressed by<br />
10-11 mm with thumb pressure applied in the middle of its<br />
length.<br />
4. Tighten slider mounting screws (H).<br />
B. Compressor belt adjustment :<br />
1. Loosen the tension nut (I).<br />
2. Adjust the belt tension by turning tensioner screw (F).<br />
3. Compressor belt tension is correct, if it can be depressed by<br />
8-9 mm with thumb pressure applied in the middle of its<br />
length.<br />
4. Tighten the tensioner nut (I).<br />
