Tish Ates had a strong devotion
to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.
She believed in her values,
especially her dedication to serving
others. She also believed in the
strong Catholic and academic
values taught at Elizabeth Seton
High School where she sent her
three daughters: Robin Ates Kirkley
‘81, Dana Ates McAnney ‘84, and
Laura Ates Pautler ‘00. Following
in the footsteps of St. Elizabeth Ann
Seton, Tish contributed much of
her time to volunteering at Seton,
and she put her heart and soul into
continuing the school’s legacy. She
served as president of the Seton
Parents’ Club for many years. Under
her leadership, the Parents’ Club
raised money for new curtains in
the Seton library. She supported
other fundraisers such as the Phonea-thon,
the Field of Dreams, the
construction of the Brooks Center,
and the auction. Tish also worked
behind the scenes decorating for pep
rallies, homecomings, and galas. She
took pride in Seton’s presentation
and enjoyed turning the auditorium
into an elegant banquet hall, or doing
last minute costume alterations for
the students. Her love for Seton
Athletics prompted her to donate a
new roadrunner costume. Even after
her daughters graduated, Tish was
well known for her commitment and
service to Seton. Her involvement
in activities, down to the last detail,
exhibited her genuine love for the
Seton community and her belief
that the school truly provides the
world with the light to know and the
grace to do. She touched everyone
with her kindness, compassion,
and charm, making Seton a better
place for the students, teachers,
staff, alumnae and friends. She was
indeed Seton’s biggest fan!
On April 13, 2010, Tish was
called home to the Lord; however,
her spirit of love, commitment,
and grace continues to bless our
hallways. Tish will always be
remembered as a loving wife and
mother and a dedicated member
of the Seton Community. We
thank God every day for her loving
touch, exemplary dedication, and
vibrant passion.
