g. Accord<strong>in</strong>g to certa<strong>in</strong> asylum seekers and refugees, <strong>the</strong> Asylum Centre carries<br />

out what <strong>the</strong>y consider a strict surveillance policy <strong>in</strong> relation to <strong>the</strong> movement<br />

<strong>of</strong> asylum seekers, thoroughly monitor<strong>in</strong>g and thus limit<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>ir right<br />

to enter and exit <strong>the</strong> Asylum Centre.<br />

You are allowed to move freely around <strong>the</strong> entire territory <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Republic <strong>of</strong><br />

Slovenia as an asylum seeker. You will be provided with an ID card, confirm<strong>in</strong>g<br />

your status as an asylum seeker and serv<strong>in</strong>g as a pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> identity<br />

upon requests made by competent authorities. After hav<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> status <strong>of</strong> an<br />

asylum seeker for n<strong>in</strong>e months, you are entitled to apply for a work permit<br />

with <strong>the</strong> competent authority for a period <strong>of</strong> 3 months, with <strong>the</strong> option <strong>of</strong><br />

renewal.<br />

Possible outcomes regard<strong>in</strong>g your application for<br />

<strong>in</strong>ternational protection:<br />

The statutory period for a competent authority to reach a decision with regard to an<br />

<strong>in</strong>ternational protection application is up to six months. In reality, asylum seekers<br />

wait for a longer period <strong>of</strong> time to receive <strong>the</strong> decision: normally one year, and <strong>in</strong> some<br />

specific cases even three years or longer.<br />

Given that <strong>the</strong> procedures normally take a long period <strong>of</strong> time, many asylum<br />

seekers lose perspective. It may be hard, but never<strong>the</strong>less try to go through<br />

<strong>the</strong> wait<strong>in</strong>g process by becom<strong>in</strong>g actively <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> educational programs<br />

and o<strong>the</strong>r free activities organised by <strong>the</strong> Asylum Centre and o<strong>the</strong>r non-governmental<br />

organisations.
