Acquisition <strong>of</strong> citizenship for persons with refugee<br />

status<br />

You may apply for <strong>the</strong> citizenship <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Republic <strong>of</strong> Slovenia as a person with <strong>the</strong><br />

status <strong>of</strong> a refugee if you:<br />

• live <strong>in</strong> Slovenia cont<strong>in</strong>uously for at least five years before apply<strong>in</strong>g for<br />

citizenship;<br />

You must demonstrate that you have lived cont<strong>in</strong>uously <strong>in</strong> Slovenia for five<br />

years with <strong>of</strong>ficial documents, such as a <strong>residence</strong> permit, registration confirmation<br />

at <strong>the</strong> Employment Service <strong>of</strong> Slovenia, etc. It is <strong>the</strong>refore extremely<br />

important that you keep all <strong>of</strong>ficial documents from <strong>the</strong> day you enter<br />

Slovenia.<br />

• have passed a <strong>the</strong> basic level Slovenian language exam; you may take <strong>the</strong><br />

exam free <strong>of</strong> charge if you have at least 80% attendance at <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>tegration<br />

tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g;<br />

• have at least <strong>the</strong> m<strong>in</strong>imal <strong>in</strong>come per person ensured (also for children);<br />

• have been <strong>in</strong> a permanent employment relationship for two years;<br />

• have a fixed-term employment relationship and are able to demonstrate that<br />

you have been receiv<strong>in</strong>g your employment-based remuneration at least for<br />

two years before mak<strong>in</strong>g an application, and that you rema<strong>in</strong> employed while<br />

your application is be<strong>in</strong>g considered.<br />

Adequate means <strong>of</strong> material support are def<strong>in</strong>ed as a receipt <strong>of</strong> ongo<strong>in</strong>g<br />

remuneration on <strong>the</strong> basis <strong>of</strong> a fixed-term employment relationship (multiple<br />

employers also count) for a period <strong>of</strong> six months before mak<strong>in</strong>g an<br />

application. One or more <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g benefits may also be considered as
