The Saint Mary's Drama Club Presents A Comedy Classic
In The Opening Performance In The E.L. Wiegand Auditorium
December 6 and December 7 at 7:00pm, December 8 at Noon.
"Curtain Going Up" is the story of the production of a high
school play. Among the comic obstacles facing Miss Burgess in
producing her first play at the high school are a grouchy janitor,
disappearing scripts, crossed up romances, a stage struck heroine and
her bewildered boyfriend, an actor with a swollen head, a disgruntled
athlete who feels out of place on stage, a flamboyant professional actress
with advice, a banker's daughter driven to theft and, perhaps most
unexpected of all, a romance for Miss Burgess herself! The solution to
the mounting complications sets forth a worthwhile theme that will
satisfy any audience.
Tickets available in mid-November. Don't miss this inaugural
event.
How Parents Can Help Us Spread the Word About Saint Mary's
Saint Mary’s has prepared its fourth annual, 12-page Overview booklet that is designed to acquaint the public with the plans
and programs of Saint Mary’s. This booklet is distributed at our Open House on November 18. Interested parents unable to attend our
Open House may request a copy from the school. In addition, we have posted this booklet to the school’s website. If you ever need to
provide information to people with an interest in Saint Mary’s, we recommend downloading a copy of this booklet and printing a copy
for them. Go to our website (www.smknights.org), then click on the “General Information” button, and then click on St. Mary’s
Overview. The booklet downloads as a pdf file.
Additional information is available on our website. For example, the “Academics and Guidance” button provides access to
our current course descriptions under Academics and our current admissions calendar under Admissions. The “General Information”
button gives access to current information on our tuition and financial aid policies, and snapshot facts on many topics of interest to
those wanting to know more about Saint Mary’s. The Campus and Community section includes a number of photo essays on events
during the 2006/2007 school year.
Chastity Speaker Jason Evert Returns to Saint Mary's
Jason Evert is the author of four books, including If You Really Loved Me and Pure Love, which challenge young people to
embrace the virtue of chastity. Jason and his wife, Crystalina, speak internationally to over 100,000 teens each year in Catholic,
Christian, and public junior and senior high schools, as well as universities.
Continuing our commitment to shedding thoughtful light on this subject, and to counterbalance the incessant media treatment
that batters our children with false promises and illusions of love, on October 29, Jason Evert once again brought his message to Saint
Mary’s. This marks his third visit to Saint Mary’s. His message is well received by the students. Avoiding repetition, only freshmen
attend his full presentation. Parents interested in hearing Jason Evert’s presentation, “Romance Without Regrets,” can access it at
Return of “Smiles of Christmas”!!! December 3
A huge hit on our campus last year, the “Smiles of Christmas” event is returning to our campus again this year. Monday,
December 3, is the big day. Our campus will be flooded with 300 Kinder through 2nd graders – 40 from St. Matthews and 260 from
Edison Elementary. We will also probably have about 200 to 250 high school students from Gilbert High, Hamilton High, Valley
Christian, and Arizona Lutheran.
The theme is a big birthday/carnival celebration of the 5th birthday of “Smiles of Christmas.” We will be the kickoff school
– there will be a party going on at a different high school each day of the week. We’ll have birthday cake, hot dogs, and carnival
games. Santa will be here (but no pictures, like last year). No snow either, but lots of fun and games. Face painting, balloon animals,
clowns, the whole thing!
We need sponsors for the kids. Build-a-Bear is supplying us with special bears – pink for girls and blue for boys. Each bear
costs $25, and comes with the choice of an outfit. Students clubs and classes have been asked to sponsor a child and a bear. Not only
does it require $25, but it requires a designated SM student to be the buddy to the kid throughout the day. Help them get the bear’s
outfit, take them to the park for lunch and games – spend the day with them.
Not familiar with the event? Go to the “Picture Gallery” section of the school’s website (www.smknights.org) and click on
“Smiles of Christmas Event”. It’s a very worthwhile cause and a fitting reminder of the spirit of Christmas.
