The Truth about NVR:
SOFAB strongly recommends that customer need to investigate the use of NVRs before committing their company valuables in the
hands of a few. By using an NVR you are effectively locking yourself into one manufacturer for the complete system and also for
any further upgrades and services. When models become obsolete you must then have to upgrade the complete system if parts
are no longer available. There is also the problem that if the NVR fails you lose the recorded data as it often will not play on any
other device except the same manufacturer devices. It’s also another way for some manufacturers to lock you in to their product
portfolio. If for any reason the manufacturer Bankrupts, you will not be able to have anyone support the IP CCTV equipment what so
ever.
In one similar case in Jeddah Saudi Arabia, a customer was using an NVR for his CCTV System of a major manufacturer in Europe.
His building was subjected to a robbery and thus had to submit all CCTV Recording equipment to the Police. The Police, the local
dealer and the owner were not very familiar with the NVR and thus had to wait until the manufacturer sent his engineer to Saudi.
The visa requirement and all the formalities required until reaching Saudi Arabia and the Police investigation division, has taken
over 45 days. Because of the time laps, the NVR and the robbers were far from bringing the truth to light and there was no prosecution
and no justice.
SOFAB strongly recommends that customers adopt a system such that employs a server based with limitless storage devices. With
a professional Server, a consumer can either use internal or network storage. By doing this if at any time the server fails then all
you have to do is take the disc and install it into another server system so that you can view your stored video files. If for any reason
the customer requires to extend the storage time, they would only be required to add additional Storage Hard Disks while maintain
the current Storage layout, thus minimizing failure and interruptions. On the other hand, an NVR would require a manufacturer’s
technical intervention. This normally requires more expenses and necessitate for the NVR to be shipped to the manufacturer and
thus leaving your business or building vulnerable to thieves.
Without calculating the huge storage capacity required for an IP CCTV System, guarantying that an NVR will never have enough
storage capacity to save the minimum frames required. Just simply contact one of our sales engineers or technicians, and they will
be able to demonstrate the storage capacity by a given IP CCTV System. A customer may be able to use an NVR by simply reducing
the storage required by reducing the frame rate and recorded hours per day. This will inevitably give the client his basic needs
but not the required solution for his domain. Banks require a minimum of 25 frames per second while other institutions may only
need just 5 frames per second as a minimum. Please never accept less then 5 frames per second for any CCTV Analog or IP Installation.
SOFAB has very reliable systems that are being deployed in Hypermarkets and other locations such as UAE government departments
all of which are using a WINDOWS based system with internal storage capacity of 8.5 T.B. as a minimum for such large facilities.
If you require then remote monitoring this can also be offered so long as the local internet infrastructure will be able to provide
the bandwidth for remote access to the server.
