DRAFT IEEE Standard for Floating-Point Arithmetic – 2003 August 12 10:20
Encoding Densely Packed Decimal
Table 1d encodes 3 decimal digits d (1) , d (2) , and d (3), each having 4 bits
which can be expressed by a second subscript d (1,0:3) , d (2,0:3) , and d (3,0:3),
where bit 0 is the most significant and bit 3 the least significant, into a declet,
with 10 bits b (0) to b (9) . Arithmetic operations generate only the 1000 10-bit
patterns defined by table 1d.
