Sophie Paterson, one of the borough’s most established interior designers,
gives KARI ROSENBERG some interiors inspiration and a look inside
her beautiful, neutral South Kensington mews home
HER CLIENTELE comprises the cream of the social
crop from London, through Europe and even across the
pond. Since founding her own London-based company
Sophie Paterson Interiors in 2008, luxury interiors designer
Sophie has completed a variety of ventures for her affluent
and discerning patrons. Having carved out for herself a
niche market of developers in Kensington and Chelsea,
Sophie has set a new benchmark in bespoke design.
A favourite among record producers, high-end
property developers, fashion designers and a plethora of
high-net worth individuals across the banking, beauty and
media industries, Sophie’s current projects include the
London family home of a household beauty brand owner, a
new 9,000 square foot private house development in Surrey
and a manor house just outside Cambridge.

projects published in international design publications
and was nominated as one of the top ten rising stars
of interior design in 2012 by IDFX magazine. While
her interiors enterprise continues to flourish, Sophie’s
first industry book, Style & Glamour, encompasses a
compendium of her design work along with insider
tips and trade secrets, as well as invaluable advice for
achieving a classic contemporary style.
A former journalist, Sophie lives with her Scottish
husband Kevin and their beautiful cocker spaniel, Bo
in a stunning 1800s, 1,700 square foot mews house
in South Kensington. The two bedroom, two bathroom
property also features a semi open plan ground floor
and an adjacent design studio in a converted garage.
Decorated to achieve a feminine-masculine balance,
Sophie reclaimed key pieces from her husband’s former
bachelor pad while introducing soft neutral tones to
create a warmer homely feel. The couple’s love for
entertaining along with the boisterous nature of the
canine family member requires their furniture and
fabrics to be durable but also stylish.
