KEY FUTURE ACTIVITIES
Essential
Establish and implement the framework and protocols to monitor and report on floodplain
condition and trend against regionally defined benchmarks and national guidelines.
Undertake a detailed Resource Inventory of the Upper Condamine Floodplain to be used
for benchmarking, situation analysis and strategic planning.
Develop and implement, with the community, a Management Plan for the whole of the
Upper Condamine Floodplain.

Promote and maintain linkages with other activities, projects and planning schemes
impacting on the floodplains.
Develop principles, guidelines, criteria and strategies appropriate for use in Shire Planning
Schemes across the plains.
Initiate and implement legislation supporting appropriate floodplain development and
water sharing.
Highly Desirable
The development and promote the adoption of better management practice guidelines.
Provide technical assistance and incentives for on-ground works to improve management
of floodplain habitats.
Develop strategies, with other projects, to minimise impacts of sediment, nutrient and
pesticide loads, on the floodplain environment and water quality.
Undertake hydrological studies to identify the dynamics of overland flows and the
.- I influences of management practices on the floodplain environment.
Support the development and implementation of riparian vegetation retention and
rehabilitation plans at catchment and sub-catchment level.
Coordinate with other projects to develop and promote cost effective methods to minimise
channel and stream bank erosion at critical locations on the plains.
Promote the development of strategic Land Management Planning in the Uplands to
compliment floodplain planning.
