• SPENCER NEW LEADER 3
Autumn in Spencer
BY JOSHUA J. SCHNARE
Summertime is coming to a close.
The nights are getting colder as the
shadows get longer. Soon hot dogs
and apple pie will turn to hot chocolate
and pumpkin pie. The trees that
contour our roads remain the same,
yet the leaves turn from green to a
luminous yellow and lustrous
orange. This makes Spencer a must
for any foliage trip.
I love watching the leaves twirl
and dance in the air on a breezy day.
I even like raking them up into piles.
It can be very therapeutic and can
make you feel a sense of fulfillment
when done. It is also a great family
activity. I do not look at raking as a
task, but as a break from the stress
life can dispense.
One of my favorite things about
autumn is breathing in the brisk air.
I adore the days that I can wear a
light sweater and be comfortable
outside. It is a nice break from the
humidity of summer and prepares
you for the blistering cold of winter.
I also like the aroma of smoke from
a chimney or a brush fire. It always
takes me back.
Let us not forget about the seasonal
fruit, pumpkins. Yes, a pumpkin
is considered a fruit. The health benefits
and many uses for a pumpkin
are astounding. Pumpkins are low
in fat, a good source of fiber and
have disease-fighting antioxidants
along with vitamins C and E. I love
everything about pumpkins, pumpkin
pie, pumpkin seeds, pumpkin
scented candles, pumpkin beer, and
last, but not least, jack-o-lanterns for
Halloween decorations. I really
enjoy going to Breezy Gardens and
picking out best pumpkin I can find.
Autumn has always been and
always will be my favorite time of
year and living in Spencer compliments
my feeling. Autumn to me is
the perfect medium. It is a feeling
like no other. I just wish it lasted a
little longer. For some reason, shoveling
snow does not have the same
therapeutic touch as raking.
Joshua J. Schnare is a resident of
Spencer.
The first event will take place at 7 p.m.
“I think it is all together fitting that we hold
our first event at this location,” said Durant.
“While my opponent is busy cutting the ribbon
and claiming victory at the new RMV
location down the street, it’s important to
remember that he has been asleep at the
wheel from the very start of this debacle.”
In addition to the Southbridge event,
Durant will hold his Spencer meeting on Oct.
