Sets of general or foundational skills (competencies) have been
identified and the need for discipline-specific competencies has been
addressed. Voorhees (2001) proposed a list of 21st-century workplace
skills. They fall into four major categories related to the general education
and liberal arts portions of degree requirements and programs.
They are summarized in Table 1.1.
