ART 1181 THE VISUAL ARTS LAB (2) Studio-oriented experience<br />

consisting of a series of basic exercises using visual elements<br />

ART 1202 DESIGN STUDIO (3) Applies the elements and principles<br />

ART 1203 DESIGN STUDIO (3) Applies the elements and principles<br />

of visual arts and design to projects in a variety of media<br />

emphasizing practical design problems. Emphasizes three-dimensional<br />

ART 1204 DESIGN STUDIO (3) Applies the elements and principles<br />

of visual art and design to projects utilizing digital imaging<br />

and manipulation. Emphasis placed on digital media as tools for<br />

creating works of art. Extra fee. Class open to art majors. Class<br />

open to freshmen and sophomores.<br />

ART 2201 INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER ART (3) Prerequisites:<br />

ART 1102, 1103, 1202, 1203 and 1204. Overview and exploration<br />

of the rudimentary use of digital media as it relates to the<br />

production of visual communications. Extra fee. Registration<br />

Approval: Instructor.<br />

ART 2208 TYPOGRAPHY (3) Registration Approval: Instructor.<br />

Prerequisite: ART 2201. Introduction to the communicative symbolic,<br />

and associative aspects of typography. Emphasis is placed<br />

upon the strategic use of typography as a primary design element.<br />

Extra fee. Class not open to freshmen.<br />

ART 2302 PAINTING STUDIO - WATER SOLUBLE OIL (3)<br />

Analyzes problems in two-dimensional composition and the expression<br />

of volume on the two-dimensional plane emphasizing<br />

materials and techniques of water-soluble oil painting. Extra fee.<br />

Attributes: <strong>Art</strong>s and Humanities A and Fine <strong>Art</strong>s Option.<br />

ART 2421 PRINTMAKING STUDIO (3) Studies graphic art with<br />

projects in several printing media, including relief and intaglio<br />

processes in woodcut, linocut, drypoint and etching and monoprint.<br />

Extra fee. Class not open to freshmen.<br />

ART 2422 METALS STUDIO (3) Teaches the raising, soldering<br />

and forging of metals into utensils and decorative forms such as<br />

jewelry. Emphasizes fabrication. Extra fee. Attributes: <strong>Art</strong>s and<br />

Humanities A and Fine <strong>Art</strong>s Option.<br />

ART 2428 CERAMICS STUDIO (3) Explores the design and construction<br />

of pottery. Projects include several hand-building processes<br />

of construction, glazing and loading and firing the kiln.<br />

ART 2502 ILLUSTRATION (3) Prerequisites: ART 1102, 1103 and<br />

1104. Introduction to the various problems, materials and techniques<br />

and processes utilized in professional illustration. Extra fee.<br />

ART 2722 SCULPTURE STUDIO (3) Prerequisite: ART 1203. Studies<br />

of three-dimensional form and composition with the several media<br />

typically used in sculpture. Emphasizes additive and subtractive<br />

sculpture techniques. Extra fee. Class not open to freshmen.<br />

ART 3112 DRAWING STUDIO - FIGURE (3) Registration Approval:<br />

Instructor. Prerequisites: ART 1102, 1103, 1104. Studies<br />

the problems of anatomical structure with sketching and drawing<br />

from the draped model. Extra fee. Attribute: Upper Division. Class<br />

open to art majors. Class not open to freshmen.<br />

ART 3202 VISUAL COMMUNICATION I (3) Registration Approval:<br />

Instructor. Prerequisites: ART 2201, 2205, 2208. Exploration<br />

of creative ideas, resources, digital processes, media and<br />

terminology in the development of visual communication solutions.<br />

ART 3204 VISUAL COMMUNICATION II (3) Registration Approval:<br />
