• Provides background in<strong>for</strong>mation on plant and animals<br />

species subject to <strong>the</strong> Review <strong>of</strong> Significant Trade since<br />

CoP11, recommendations made by <strong>the</strong> scientific committees<br />

<strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>se species, and recommendations <strong>for</strong> fur<strong>the</strong>r action by<br />

<strong>the</strong> SC.<br />

• Aloe spp.: <strong>SSN</strong> agrees that Kenya has complied with <strong>the</strong><br />

recommendations and that <strong>the</strong> species should be removed from<br />

<strong>the</strong> Review.<br />

• Prunus africana (red stinkwood): <strong>SSN</strong> agrees with <strong>the</strong><br />

recommended actions <strong>for</strong> Burundi, Kenya, and Madagascar,<br />

namely that if <strong>the</strong>y seek to recommence exports, <strong>the</strong>y must supply<br />

in<strong>for</strong>mation on how <strong>the</strong> PC recommendations have been<br />

implemented. <strong>SSN</strong> also agrees that <strong>the</strong> deadline <strong>for</strong> Cameroon,<br />

<strong>the</strong> Democratic Republic <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Congo (DRC), Equatorial<br />

Guinea, and Tanzania should be extended to 31 December 2008,<br />

considering a P. africanus workshop will be held in September. We<br />

encourage <strong>the</strong> SC to specifically address concerns regarding<br />

illegal exports from DRC and to request <strong>the</strong> PC to report on any<br />

trade shifts by exporting countries in response to <strong>the</strong> Review.<br />

• Cibotium barometz: <strong>SSN</strong> agrees with <strong>the</strong> recommendation to<br />

extend <strong>the</strong> compliance deadline to 31 March 2009 but also urges<br />

<strong>the</strong> SC to require that Vietnam immediately adopt a cautious<br />

export quota <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> species until more in<strong>for</strong>mation is <strong>for</strong>thcoming.<br />

• Cya<strong>the</strong>a contaminans: <strong>SSN</strong> agrees with <strong>the</strong> recommendation to<br />

extend <strong>the</strong> compliance deadline to 31 March 2009 but also urges<br />

<strong>the</strong> SC to require that Indonesia immediately adopt a cautious<br />

export quota <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> species until more in<strong>for</strong>mation is <strong>for</strong>thcoming.<br />

• Dendrobium nobile: <strong>SSN</strong> agrees with <strong>the</strong> recommendation to<br />

suspend trade in <strong>the</strong> species until Lao has shown compliance with<br />

Article IV. Regarding Vietnam, <strong>SSN</strong> agrees with <strong>the</strong><br />

recommendation to extend <strong>the</strong> compliance deadline until 31 March<br />

2009 but also urges <strong>the</strong> SC to consult with <strong>the</strong> PC to ensure that<br />

<strong>the</strong> export quota adopted <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> species is sufficiently cautious<br />

until more in<strong>for</strong>mation is <strong>for</strong>thcoming.<br />

• Galanthus woronowii (snowdrop): <strong>SSN</strong> agrees with <strong>the</strong><br />

recommendation to extend <strong>the</strong> compliance deadline <strong>for</strong> Georgia to<br />

18 August 2008 and to maintain <strong>the</strong> 2006 export quota. <strong>SSN</strong> is<br />

pleased that <strong>the</strong> Secretariat consulted with <strong>the</strong> PC on this matter.<br />

• Falco cherrug (saker falcon): Considering that Mongolia was
