Baby Santa Manjari
Lay Keyurbhai Nayak
There was a pond near a village. One day
some children were playing near the
pond. At once, a small child fell into it.
He cried at the top of his voice.
Hearing his cries, a girl jumped into
the pond to save him. She did not know
how to swim. Still she tried to save him.
She even managed to catch
hold of a portion of his
shirt. But since she was
not good at swimming, the
collar slipped out of his
hands.
The child on the other
hand was throwing his legs
and hands to save himself
from getting drowned.
He, in the process,
managed to grapple her
legs. The girl brought
the child to the shore and
thus was able to save her
life.
As she had laboured hard, the girl
fainted. When the villagers came to
know about the two, they took them to
the hospital.
The girl got the bravery award on 26
January 1970 from late prime minister
Indira Gandhi. Her name was Baby Santa
Manjari.
