FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS
Please contact Fr. Lou or Sister Ann first when making funeral
arrangements (time, etc.) rather than making these arrangements
through the funeral home. This allows Fr. Lou to be with the family
during this difficult time of decision making and can also cut down on
the frustration of waiting for arrangements to be verified through
several parties.

FR. LOU’S REFLECTION
“Small things matter”
I remember a few weeks before Christmas, 1958,
my first Christmas with my new parents,
my dad was hard at work in the cellar.
He was building something for me---and
it was to be a surprise.
Therefore, I wasn’t allowed to go down there.
Anticipation was heightened when I saw my dad
coming home from a hard day’s work,
with plywood and boards.
Then one day I noticed something
in the spare bedroom that I wasn’t
suppose to see: a bunch of boxes.
Though the boxes weren’t wrapped,
I knew they were presents---for me.
I, however, wasn’t that curious
to fool around and find out what they were.
And, by the way, I never peeked down cellar
to see what my dad was working on.
And when Christmas Eve day came,
my dad, who had a day off work,
took me to get the family Christmas tree.
I remember being so excited---
for I never saw so many trees in my life!
In the orphanage at Christmas time,
various organizations would come,
and Santa would come with them,
and gave us all presents (usually candy)
which we all shared.
But this Christmas would be different:
my own parents that I didn’t have to share.
That first Christmas dinner was the best food ever:
mom cooked all day long (no micro wave),
it was delicious.
I went to bed early and got up at about two am.
Though my parents were in bed,
I went straight to the cellar and
found a complete train set,
with tracks, houses, snow, cars, people.
My dad joined me and he was delighted,
overjoyed that I was happy.
But, I don’t think
that lasted too long:
for the present that I really loved was my slinky.
I played with that all day.
It was the smallest of all the presents
that I received.
Sometimes, it is the small things in life
that matter.
The smile.
That concern you offer.
A helping hand.
A prayer for you and family.
Even a thank you.

ELEMENTARY CHRISTIAN FORMATION: Sun. classes meet
Dec. 16 from 9:45-11:00 am: no Sun. class Dec. 23 or Dec. 30.
Wed. classes no Wed. class Dec. 19 or Dec. 26.
ELEMENTARY CF SCHEDULE ONLINE: parents, the elementary
CF schedules are available on the St. Ann parish website
www.stanncc.com and then click on Christian Formation.
ADVENT JESSE TREE PRAYER SERVICE & BRUNCH: Thank
you to Marge Palmer for leading the prayer service, to Marie
Ascenza and Katie for leading everyone in song, to catechists and
aides, and to Christy Archileti and crew for the brunch. A big thank
you also to those who came - we hope it enriches your Advent-
Christmas preparations.
PARENTS OF FIRST RECONCILIATION STUDENTS: Thank you
for your faithful attendance at our two sessions! Parents, please
remember to review and complete the book with your student
before they celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
FIRST EUCHARIST SACRAMENTAL POLICY: Diocesan
regulations state that children who want to receive the sacrament
of First Eucharist must have participated in religious education
classes for two years and be participating in the sacramental life of
the church regularly.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD (CLOW): is offered
Sundays during the 8:30am and 11:15am Masses. CLOW is open
to all children ages 4 through 2 nd grade. Consider being a facilitator
for Children’s Liturgy of the Word – we really have a delightful
group of children. We need one more facilitator for 8:30 Mass and
one more facilitator for 11:15 Mass. You are only scheduled one
Sunday a month. Please call Judy at 526-2548 if you can help.
(NO CLOW on holidays or when there are Baptisms scheduled)
Youth Ministry News
CONFIRMATION session II is Sunday December
16 from 4-7:00p.m. Dinner will be
served. All Confirmation sessions are mandatory.
TRI- CITY WORK CAMP— sign ups begin
January 1, 2013. There will be 14 youth spaces
available, all sign ups are on a first come first
serve basis. Tri-City work camp is from July 7-
13th.
Justice & Peace
OUR DAILY BREAD FOOD PANTRY - We
want to thank everyone who has donated for their
generous support. If you have not donated before,
now is a great time to start. Helping others
brings such joy. We continue to serve many
families so there is a great need to keep our
shelves well stocked. This week we are low on
mixed canned vegetables, canned spinach, peanut
butter, spaghetti/sauce. Toilet Paper and
bath products are also very low. Please try to
pick up a few of these items when you
shop. Thank you for serving the Lord and One
Another.

VIRTUS/ BACKGROUND CHECKS: Please register in advance –
there is a link to “VIRTUS Registration” on the St. Ann website.
Call Judy in the CF office if you need help registering. You must be
over 18 to attend a VIRTUS session. All volunteers over 18 who
work with children must also complete Background checks.
BAPTISM PREPARATION: The next parish celebration of
Baptism is Jan. 26/27; parent preparation classes meet Jan. 8 &
15 from 7:30-9:00 pm. Call the parish office to register for Baptism
preparation classes and to schedule your child’s Baptism. Parents
please note – you must be registered in the parish and
participating in the sacramental life of the church, that is
participating at weekly Mass.
MARRIAGE PREPARATION: will be held at St. Ann Catholic
Church in Colonial Heights on Sat. January 12, 2013 from 9:00 am
– 4:00 pm. For more information and to obtain a Registration Form
please call St. Ann Church @ 804-526-2548. Please note: you
need to meet with your pastor before attending.
Weather - In the event of bad weather this
winter the following will be our closing policy:
Mass cancellations will appear on Channels 6
(CBS), 8 (ABC) and 12 (NBC). Wednesday
Christian Formation Classes – will continue to
use the established “call tree.” You will be notified.
Sunday Christian Formation classes –
will follow the Mass schedule. If Mass is cancelled,
so is Christian Formation.

A PRAYER FOR RESOLUTION IN IRAN
I pray, we, our community pray, O Lord God, for a good and
just outcome in the discussions that are currently on going
with Iran and five other nations, including our country. We
implore that you inspire each person in these deliberations to
act with a sincere conscience and a deep respect for humanity.
We ask, Lord God, that the divine hand of your Son,
Jesus, lead the way for all nations to let go of all weapons of
mass destruction---and for those countries seeking nuclear
weapons who harbor sinister thoughts in the hope of eliminating
their perceived grievousness by acts of destruction.
We pray that Mary, the Queen of Peace, may shed her light
to enkindle greater understanding among all nations in their
hope of living without the fear of nuclear attack or retaliation.
Each Thursday, from 9:00-9:15am I will invite our community
to join me in prayer in our chapel, and also join me in a
day of fasting for peace in our world —- and for life that is
either denied or taken away from others (i.e., abortion and
capital punishment).
Gracious wonderful God, we thank you for the end of our
nation’s war in Iraq and the ending war in Afghanistan. We
ask you to continue to comfort those who suffer loss of life.
Heal all the wounded and bless those who labor for a world
without strife. Bless our soldiers and personnel in these wartorn
countries that they may see the fruits of their labor.
Amen.
