Particulate matter - Origin
• PM 2.5 - PM 10 :
– road dust
– pollen grains
– spores, plant and insect parts
– uncovered soil
• PM 0.1 : condensation of low-vapour-pressure
substances
– gases are converted to small liquid drops – nuclei
– including: elemental carbon, heavy metals, organic carbon,
sulfates and nitrates
– by coagulation and condensation nuclei can grow up to 1µm
