New Faces in Career Services, Student Services and External Af f a i r s<br />

Eden Ku s m i e r s k y, Edward<br />

Tr i ckey and Melinda Vaughn<br />

T h ree staff members have joined the <strong>Law</strong> <strong>School</strong>: Eden L. Ku s m i e r s k y, director <strong>of</strong> care e r<br />

s e rvices, Ed w a rd Tr i c k e y, director <strong>of</strong> student services, and Melinda M. Vaughn, senior editor.<br />

As director <strong>of</strong> career services, Ms. Kusmiersky manages the career services <strong>of</strong>fice and is the<br />

p r i m a ry contact for law students seeking jobs and employers seeking new re c ruits. She prov i d e s<br />

c a reer counseling to students and graduates, oversees all interv i ew programs and events, and<br />

d e velops and maintains relationships with employers nationwide.<br />

Her solid background in the law and education helped smooth her transition to <strong>USC</strong><br />

f rom her former post as program director for the Constitutional Rights Foundation (CRF).<br />

“I really enjoyed the work I did at CRF,” says Ms. Ku s m i e r s k y. “But I missed being able to work<br />

d i rectly with students. I love the contact I have with students here . ”<br />

A Los Angeles-area native, Ms. Kusmiersky studied English at Wellesley College and Brow n<br />

Un i versity before earning her juris doctorate at No rt h western Un i versity <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Law</strong>. He r<br />

i n t e rest in education stretches back to her undergraduate days at Brown, where she coord i n a t e d<br />

an adult literacy program. At No rt h western, she interned with the <strong>Law</strong>ye r s’ <strong>School</strong> Re f o r m<br />

Ad v i s o ry Project in Chicago. During her three years with the Constitutional Rights Fo u n d a t i o n<br />

in Los Angeles, Ms. Kusmiersky managed law-related education programs, including the<br />

<strong>California</strong> Mock Trial program and the LeBoeuf Scholars pro g r a m .<br />

M r. Tr i c k e y’s new position brings him back to <strong>USC</strong>, where he worked from 1990 to 1996,<br />

first in the financial aid <strong>of</strong>fice and later with the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> the vice president for student affairs.<br />

He also pursued graduate studies in international and comparative education at <strong>USC</strong> and<br />

conducted re s e a rch as a visiting scholar in China.<br />

He holds bachelor’s degrees in history and political science from the Un i versity <strong>of</strong> <strong>California</strong>,<br />

Santa Barbara, and a master’s in international affairs from Columbia Un i ve r s i t y. Since 1998, he<br />

has been working tow a rd a juris doctorate through Loyola <strong>Law</strong> <strong>School</strong>’s evening pro g r a m .<br />

His work history is varied. He has taught middle school, was an economist at the Fe d e r a l<br />

Re s e rve Bank <strong>of</strong> New Yo rk, and was a law clerk at a Century City law firm, among other<br />

positions.<br />

As director <strong>of</strong> student services, Mr. Trickey works with a number <strong>of</strong> departments within the<br />

<strong>Law</strong> <strong>School</strong> and coordinates a variety <strong>of</strong> admissions, financial aid and registration serv i c e s .<br />

He also works closely with pro s p e c t i ve applicants to the <strong>Law</strong> <strong>School</strong>, manages the application<br />

processing system, coordinates student services and admissions Web sites, and plans<br />

commencement and new student orientation eve n t s .<br />

Ms. Vaughn joins the <strong>Law</strong> <strong>School</strong> staff as senior editor. She edits and manages pro d u c-<br />

tion <strong>of</strong> <strong>USC</strong> <strong>Law</strong>, assists in preparing grant applications and fund-raising proposals, and helps<br />

c o o rdinate media relations and public information programs. She previously worked in <strong>USC</strong>’s<br />

d e velopment communications <strong>of</strong>fice, where she wrote major grants and fund-raising pro p o s a l s<br />

for schools and departments throughout the university and developed publications, adve r-<br />

tisements and online communications to support the unive r s i t y’s “Building on Exc e l l e n c e”<br />

c a m p a i g n .<br />

Prior to coming to <strong>California</strong> in 1999, Ms. Vaughn was publications editor at the Un i ve r s i t y<br />

<strong>of</strong> Dayton in Dayton, Ohio, where she edited magazines for the unive r s i t y’s schools <strong>of</strong> education<br />

and law. She has worked as a newspaper re p o rter in Utah, Ohio and <strong>California</strong> and as<br />

an account manager for a public relations firm in Be verly Hills, Calif. A native <strong>of</strong> Salt Lake City,<br />

Ms. Vaughn holds bachelor’s degrees in English and mass communication from the Un i ve r s i t y<br />

<strong>of</strong> Ut a h .<br />
