INDEPENDENT TRADER OF THE YEAR 2014<br />
July saw the launch<br />
of Wellington’s<br />
Independent Trader of<br />
the Year 2014. Voting<br />
ended at midnight<br />
on Tuesday 15th July.<br />
The nominees were as<br />
follows:<br />
Meats Direct, Chelsea<br />
Flowers and Gifts, Hair<br />
Art, Coffee Den, JC<br />
Design, Vintage Geek, The Camera Shop, Karen Boulton Opticians,<br />
David Lloyd Jewellers, Baker’s Schoolwear, Allums Jewellers, Tin<br />
House Restaurant and Shelly’s Florists<br />
1st place, with the most votes received, was Ken Francis’s<br />
Butchers. 2nd Place was Spiceland restaurant and 3rd place was<br />
Hills Butchers<br />
The local winner will now go forward to the National<br />
Competition.<br />
Wellington Town Council would like to take this opportunity to<br />
thank everyone who entered the competition and for the voters<br />
without them, this competition would of been impossible to run.<br />
WELLINGTON’S 18TH ANNUAL LITERARY<br />
FESTIVAL WILL TAKE PLACE<br />
3RD –25TH OCTOBER 2014.<br />
Wellington Town Council, through its Literary<br />
Festival Committee, is delighted to bring to you<br />
another 3 week programme of events for October.<br />
This year sees the poet laureate Carol Ann<br />
Duffy appearing on Saturday 11th October. The<br />
celebration of Shakespeare’s 450th birthday sees a<br />
trio bring his work to life with his best sonnets and<br />
speeches on Friday 17th .<br />
Welsh poet Dylan Thomas is the subject of the ‘big<br />
read’ and his work is also celebrated by a dramatic<br />
performance by Colin Pinney on Thursday 23rd.<br />
Whether you’re a keen reader, budding poet or<br />
novelist, come along and pick up a brochure from<br />
Wellington Town Council for a full breakdown of the<br />
three week festival.<br />
NEW MAJOR AND<br />
DEPUTY<br />
In May, the Town Council appointed<br />
a new Mayor and a new<br />
Deputy Mayor. Cllr Karen Tomlinson<br />
is the new Town Mayor with Cllr Phil<br />
Morris-Jones serving as her Deputy<br />
As ever, the Council are grateful<br />
for the commitment shown by each<br />
Councillor.<br />
