LED vs Fluorescent<br />
Fluorescent lamps have been lighting offi ces for more than half a century and during that time they<br />
have provided good general illumination, but the dangers associated with fl uorescent technology<br />
and specifi cally the harmful mercury that is contained in every fl uorescent tube is an increasing<br />
environmental concern, particularly at end of life.<br />
Note that all fl uorescent lamps are categorised as Hazardous Waste and must be disposed of<br />
appropriately under the direction of the WEEE directive.<br />
Aurora LED fl at panels are constructed with the very latest materials. With an extruded aluminium frame<br />
and polycarbonate light guide diffuser the product is approved for use on emergency escape routes.<br />
They are also IP44 rated from below and suitable for use in commercial kitchens, clean rooms,<br />
healthcare and similar environments.<br />
Safe, cost-effective alternatives<br />
The good news is that LED technology has advanced rapidly, it is a safe<br />
and credible replacement to the old fl uorescent products. Solid State<br />
LED lighting delivers signifi cant energy savings through lower electricity<br />
consumption and has none of the stroboscopic fl icker associated with<br />
fl uorescent.<br />
LED has a signifi cantly longer life than Triphosphor fl uorescent, lasting<br />
on average three times longer than extra life fl uorescent products, this<br />
extended lifetime is a standard feature of new technology and it avoids<br />
lamp outages and makes signifi cant savings on lamp replacement costs<br />
with none of the associated labour expenses and issues relating to<br />
disruption of working environments.<br />
