What is Business Studies?<br />
Business Studies is dynamic and challenging, drawing on a number of specialist fields<br />
including management, marketing, finance and operations management to produce an<br />
integrated course which is highly relevant to the modern world.<br />
What staff and facilities are available in the department?<br />
There are two full-time teachers in the department. One of our teaching rooms has a suite<br />
of networked computers, enabling pupils to explore the considerable IT potential within the<br />
subject. Both classrooms have interactive whiteboards and multimedia facilities. We are a<br />
lead department in the development of the school’s online learning environment, Moodle.<br />
What does the Business Studies course involve?<br />
Business Studies is dynamic and challenging, drawing on a number of specialist fields including<br />
management, marketing, economics, accountancy, and operations management, to produce<br />
an integrated course which is highly relevant to the modern world. The course enables pupils<br />
to develop a critical understanding of how organisations work, best practice in business, the<br />
markets they serve and how they relate to the external environment. It also develops the<br />
awareness that business behaviour can be studied from the perspective of a multitude of<br />
stakeholders including consumers, shareholders, managers, employees and society.<br />
We follow the AQA syllabus. At AS Level pupils undertake modules in Planning & Financing<br />
a Business, and Managing a Business. At A2 our study deepens to give consideration to<br />
strategic thinking in business and analysis of how external factors such as the global economic<br />
