What is Business Studies?
Business Studies is dynamic and challenging, drawing on a number of specialist fields
including management, marketing, finance and operations management to produce an
integrated course which is highly relevant to the modern world.
What staff and facilities are available in the department?
There are two full-time teachers in the department. One of our teaching rooms has a suite
of networked computers, enabling pupils to explore the considerable IT potential within the
subject. Both classrooms have interactive whiteboards and multimedia facilities. We are a
lead department in the development of the school’s online learning environment, Moodle.
What does the Business Studies course involve?
Business Studies is dynamic and challenging, drawing on a number of specialist fields including
management, marketing, economics, accountancy, and operations management, to produce
an integrated course which is highly relevant to the modern world. The course enables pupils
to develop a critical understanding of how organisations work, best practice in business, the
markets they serve and how they relate to the external environment. It also develops the
awareness that business behaviour can be studied from the perspective of a multitude of
stakeholders including consumers, shareholders, managers, employees and society.
We follow the AQA syllabus. At AS Level pupils undertake modules in Planning & Financing
a Business, and Managing a Business. At A2 our study deepens to give consideration to
strategic thinking in business and analysis of how external factors such as the global economic
